I recently did away with my 18" snowflakes and put a set of 20" rims on my fg. I called and arranged to take my car into the dealership to have my speedo recalibrated and when I did they told me that their flash tuner didn't go to 20" so they tuned it to 19". They told me if I had any issues with abs or dsc, that it would be my problem and it could affect my warranty. I was under the impression that you could legally use a 2" larger rim (correct me if I'm wrong) so I assumed ford's flash tuner could accommodate this. I then received a call back from customer service at the dealership asking about my satisfaction with my service, I told them of my concern about my safety and was told I would receive a call back. When the service dept called me back I was told that the rims were illegal because the base model of my 2010 fg xr6t came with 17" rims and even if I had the 18" rim package, I could still only go to a 19" rim (is this true?). I asked if anyone would be able to adjust the ecu to suit the new rims and was told no-one would be able to. Does anyone know if it can be done? and where I stand with warranty?

I have no idea when it comes to this sort of stuff so any assistance is appreciated

Yeah I always heard you can only go 1" above the maximum available from factory for diameter.

Think it's the same for width of rim, +1", so our 8 becomes 9 as max legal width.

Anyone know for sure?

25mm overall diameter. 20s are legal. Put an 18" next to a 20" and you'll see there nearly the same OD.

Are all states the same? I'm commenting on this from WA. Is it a section of the ADRs?

And are you talking circumference? 18" and 20" rims should be 2 inches different in height if compared with no tyres? Nearly the same would be true in terms of circumference.

the B series shape comes with 19's... so you can go up to 21...

Width wise... only comes in 8 inch, so 9 inch is legal widest

(why dont they do f*cking 8.5 at least!)

Put tires on them though and there's normally less than 10mm.

Because ford are still living in the 90's. HSV have had 9.5 rears for ages. Way to go ford.

I would have a guess that your speedo will be more accurate with the 20s than with the stock 18s. Get a GPS to confirm.

It depends how much the rolling diameter of the wheel changes. You usually go from say a 45 profile on 17's to a 30 profile on 20's. Keep the diameter the same and you shouldn't have any issues.

My speedo didn't change going from 17's to 19's according to my gps. It was only about 1-2km/h out to begin with anyway.

Was under impression it was over all diameter can not be more than 15mm over stock rim and tyre. As long as you select the correct profile tyre then the diameter and therefore speedo will be correct. Once again Ford service mid informing customers. Width is allowed 25mm more than stock.

In WA this is how it works and pretty sure it's an Australian standard as well. Wheels and tyres must be load rated, which becomes the issue when you start fitting big wheels with very low profile tyres.
