Fuel Guage Fault

Hi all,

I filled up today and when I started my car my DTE was still showing 55km.

Stopped and re started a couple of times and still no good. It took about 80km of driving before the fuel guage finally reached full and the DTE also slowly caught up.

I have already spoken to my dealer who tells me it is proberbly the fuel sender unit in the fuel tank and it will be replaced at the 3000km service.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Cheers,

Dean

How many K's have you got to go before your 3000k service?

What happens if you run out of petrol without warning - does your fuel pump survive in the XR's?

xrdreaming,

I have had this happen once. It was on the way to Melbourne for the site tour of the factories.

Filled up at Albury, and the gauge didnt move. It took a good hour of driving for the gauge to gradually creep back to the top, with the DTE increasing also. It it the strangest thing to actually see the fuel level go up while driving.

The next tankful I put in the gauge worked fine, and I completely forgot to tell the dealer about it at my next service. Havent had it looked at, and have driven 6000Km since, no probs.

See how you go with your next tank. If your worried, take it back.

This was a very common problem in AU utes, if the tank was overfilled. If you have tried to squeeze a little extra juice in, then the fuel warning light used to come on.

Wasn't just one vehicle either, happened on all the half dozen AU utes we had through work, never noticed it on a sedan though.
