Sorry mate I shudder ever time I see someone buy a 5 speed..

Your first stop will be about 3k+ for a new 6 speed gearbox and clutch because your current one is absolute rubbish, and pretty much wont handle any more power.

I went down that road like yourself, bought the car was happy as a pig in sh*t until I found out on here how bad the 5 speeds really are and it sucks, but at least the 6 speed is alot cheaper now then when I did it.

Save for one of them and a clutch and don't look back, oh and Welcome to the forum.

I know they are 'weak' but the whole car was cheap with low kms..my box is a bit notchy and 2nd gear is the hardest to engage especially on the downshift. I do however double clutch pretty much every shift and heel toe it on the down shift(been driving like that since I was 12), I'm hoping this will help I understand I'll be up for a box eventually, and mods are probably a bit down the track when funds allow.

Oh..and yes I found the limits of my clutch already lol... can't slip it on a hard take off, really have to just let it out and wait for the turbo to kick in

Hi Samantha. Welcome to theforum. Gitta ask, why have you taken the mammoth step from a Corolla to a T?

Also, if you are interested in cruises, keep an eye out for the combined Snowies Cruise around October. You may want to get a cruise or two under your belt first as this is 3 days of full on fun. But its a great cruise.

Why have I taken the big step? I have always been a Ford girl through and through. I bought the corolla as my very first car 10 years ago. She has served her purpose and I've always wanted an xr6t...so why the heck not! Never looked back. I am loving it completely and grin like a cheshire cat every time I get in it.

I have put my name down for the cruise on the 2nd April...cant wait. Good way to explore my new home town (moved to NSW from melbourne 6 months ago) as well as meet some fellow Ford nuts. . Wanting to do some others as well...I just love driving my car!!

Yeah I did all that too mate and you can slip it it just grinds into second then your lucky if you make third, lol. But honestly when you nail a hard launch it doesn't sound that sturdy does it?

If you got a low kay car that your happy with then make the 6 speed conversion your first mod, you wont regret it. The 5 speed is good for about 250rwkw if that (some have exploded earlier) and the 6 speed in good for 450+ rwkw. No brainer.

It's piece of mind and saving money.

I plan on doing some things to it, not 100% sure yet. Have to worry about warranty etc. But as ive read on here, you modify it, you take the risk of Ford finding out and putting it back to stock. First thing I will do will probably be the ehxaust.

Hi all,

Just picked up an '03 BA XR6 Turbo. Mercury Silver, 4sp auto, black leather interior. 130k on the clock, but it looks like new inside and out. Runs like a dream too, for the most part.

Brakes have me a bit puzzled; they're not as 'bitey' as I'd prefer, so I may look into that. Could be that I came from a Swift Gti. That tiny little thing with four-wheel disc brakes

stopped beautifully! The big Falcon's brakes are stopping more than twice the weight.

I test drove a Manual initially. It had lower k's and felt a tiny bit quicker perhaps, but I didn't like the 'feel'. The auto lets me simply concentate on steering this rocket!

It's the first proper fast car I've onned, and it's taking a bit of getting used to, but I'm loving it so far.

Nice to see there's communities like this around for advice and information too.

I'm trying to be fairly gentle on it and to be honest I havent nailed a hard launch yet.. I either bog down, or the clutch wont grab and neither sound good lol.

Will do thanks for the advice, I will of course wait till the 5 speed is kaput, then swap in a 6.. then I should be good for anything I do down the track. Hoping it lasts a little while so I can save up. I am in no rush for mods, and after driving it for a few days the rear springs are first up.. I have a canopy and 200+kgs tools and gear in the back. If I drive over the painted white line on the road I bottom out

Just bought myself a 05 BIONIC BLUE xr6 turbo ute and its awesome.

its got some serious mods on it but has been tuned down which is ok for me now.

one day when I get the balls ill see what shes capable of but at the moment im getting slideways by accident enough as it is.

go xr6 turbos!
