Afternoon,

I plan to remove the cat converter. I understand that doing so, will create overboost from the turbo. I am getting it tuned etc, but where the muffler shop is and the tuner is 150km apart. The tuner shop charges 400% more than my local guy and towing it to the tuner isn't worth it (the costs are pretty much equal).

So question is, if I drive under 2000rpm, stay off boost as much as I can and drive really carefully, can I make it to the destination without turbo damage?

Any ideas would be a help.

It may over boost in higher gears up hill. 5th gear and steady. It also may still overboost with a tune, especially on the colder days approaching. Just be careful. Might throw an o2 sensor code on such a long trip. Someone else can answer that in more depth, plenty of info on the search function.

Correct, engine light may come on, are you comparing the same quality cat?

We have seen some nasty cheap ones that either do not work well or fail very early, be careful to what you are getting

Gut it gently will always be cheaper than having a workshop make up a replacement pipe if that's the way you are going? Being legal in NZ your tuner might do this for you on site, saves the worry out of the trip.
