Happy to help, MAXout. I do all my own installs and do mate's ones relatively cheap (in comparison to other places). With the B-Series, as TRA1NR said, you have to choose whether you are running off an aftermarket headunit (better choice, but you lose all functionality of the stock units sound output) or are running off the standard system (with the standard system, you need a line level convertor and be prepared to live with some alternator whine).

2nd issue is how big your amplifiers (good mounting positions can be hard to find with massive equipment) are and how big your sub-box is, as the sides/edges of the b-series boot isn't great for mounting any generic-type sub-box, but if you don't mind compromising space in the boot, then any massive box will fit, as the boot is quite massive.

I am not installing an aftermarket head unit, but will be using an iPod with (most likely, but haven't purchased yet) the ASL iPod Aux Booster Kit. I also want my subs to work with the radio too.

I don't have the sub box with subs in my possession at the moment, but will be getting them later this week. I will do the measuring and see if it fits. I don't mind sacrificing boot space though.

The sub box I bought at the time which was about 4-5 years ago I quickly snatched up as back when I had an E-series it fit VERY well in my EB. It would go right back to the rear seats.

A question I do have is... Why would the alternator whine when installing subs?

Not that it makes any difference but the subs I have are pioneer and I have two of them in the one sub box. Just in case that makes any difference at all.

Also, what kind of figure are we looking at for installation. k31th?

If you're not installing a headunit, it's not too bad, all you require is a line level convertor for the sub signal to connect to the normal RCA inputs of a traditional amplifier.

Alternator whine won't be a problem as long as you don't amplify the standard signal through the speakers. (ground is terrible on the standard radio/headunit/icc so it has whine problems if you amplify the signal even a little above the stock level).

Hard to give an accurate figure on installation without seeing it, but it'd be between $50 and $150 I would imagine, depending on what is required. If you bring your car (and subs/sub box) to the prinny on friday night then I'll be able to check it out and give you a more accurate estimate.

If you want it to ever pass a roadworthy, the sub box needs to be secured (not absolutely necessary, of course), which can be an issue, so some brackets may need to be purchased etc (not expensive from bunnings or other hardware store).

Ok, so... the reason for me wanting subs installed is so I can get more bass and power out of my music... so that sounds kinda like it's contradicted by not being able to amplify the sound above standard level... (I'm not technical, so don't know what that means exactly, but just sounds contradicting). I would of course want to keep my car as roadworthy as I can, so securing the sub boxes should be done, why do you say it can be an issue though?

Another question... seeing as my xr6t already has a sub in it (the one the ford put in standard) will this end up being disconnected, or will it still be in use with the other subs?

Just for further information, I love heavy music. In saying that, I do listen to everything from pop to heavy metal, but I specialise more in the heavier rock genre, so it's important that I can have my sound up. Lol.

Hey bud I know of somebody who can do it for you. Friendly honest bloke. Has done audio installs for a friend and did some auto elec work for myself. Not as expensive as the shops (he used to work in one though). Lives in Deer Park? If your interested let me know.
