Hey guys,

I have a 2007 BF MK2 XR6 Ute. Owned it for about a year and a half now. Everything ran smooth until a couple of months ago.

Sometimes the car will turn over slowly then suddenly pick up to normal pace then start. Sometimes it turns off right after and sometimes it makes a loud bang, not sure where it comes from.

Somtimes it will start with next to no difficulty but when in park the "P" flashes. I tried driving it once in that state but I didn't get far, felt like it was limited to 10kms an hour.

Most recently I went to fill up at a petrol station on the way to work. The car started just fine at home but after I stopped, filled up and got back into the car, it had trouble starting. At first it turned over slowly then died. Then it wouldn't start. I gave it a few minutes then tried again. This time is just had a loud ticking noise coming from the engine bay and remained that way until NRMA came and jumped started my car. NRMA told me that it was my alternator and that I should get it check out. I was telling a guy at work about it and he said was there a loud ticking noise, he said it was the started motor.

This is starting to happen more frequently but no one can find a problem with the car. I had it serviced the next week after the petrol station incident and they couldn't find anything wrong.

Also, I get warning lights come up on my dash everynow and then. Most common is the engine light. I've had this checked out by Ford and a couple of mechanics and they all say that it's just the oxygen sensor. I have extractors and an exhaust system.

Sometimes when I go over a bump or something sudden, my ABS and traction control buttons light up and stay on for a while, it varies. Traction control worked, even though the light was on.

Do you think this is all tied together, or seperate problems?

I searched the forum and found a bit of information that I think relates to my problem, but nothing specific.

I think the problem/s could be: starter motor, battery or my computer/ecu.

Anyone had any similar experience?

Cheers!

My ute did the same thing for about 18months. Usually when it was warm but occasionally when it was cold. Slow turn over was most common, it sometimes made a banging noise. I tried new batteries, extra earth strap etc. And then on a really hot day it died at shops, completely dead. Starter motor was cactus. Replaced it, no issues since.

Yep, what you are experiencing is called heat soak, when thr car is hot and has just been turned off the coils inside thr starter motor heat up creating a higher resistance to current flow causing massive current draw and slow cranking/ start stall etc, replace your starter motor and make sure your battery is ok and youl be sweet... Verrry common in falcons and territorys I did my starter yesterday
