It you have an Intercooler then you aren't allowed any pod filter at all. So the Herrod one would still be illegal. And it will stand out more then a turbo side one because it still has "TURBO INTERCOOLER" plasted on the crossover in big white letters right in front of you.

Yep, I put any pod filter is illegal with IC mods..my point being which one is easier to reverse in case you have to go through the pits?

'Turbo Intercooler' writing still is a stock item, maybe that's enough for no further checks?

My point being there's no difference in legality, stealth apperance or ease of installation. Just one works better then the other.

OP wants to know what is a good box, turbo side is better then the Herrod one.

Cheers I didnt even know that. The cops were factored into my asking the question, I know off the turbo is the best option for improving its breathing but I was tryin to stay away from the pod being exposed (cause I know that is illegal). Since I now know that the Herrod box is still illegal, it's at least concealed and the less car savvy coppers might overlook it. So I guess its more of a question what will improve airflow the most? The Herrod or cutting a giant hole in the factory box and sticking big snorkel on it.

Very debatable.

At the end of the day what you are seeking to do is allow as much cooler air as possible into your air box (I also am using K&N panel filter). The reason I have done what I have is because, 1) I can't find anywhere that states this mod is illegal. 2) That by maintaining the factory intake you virtually eliminate any possibility of allowing water into the engine, whereas many with under battery intakes have ingestured water which destroys turbo engines. Although there is no doubt that a pipe filter arrangement directly off the turbo, is superior for turbo performance.

I personally don't believe that I would get any greater benefit from an aftermarket CAI system. Further, all I have done is cut the lower section of the airbox, so I only need to obtain a new lower section if I wish to take back to standard. Cheers
