Had a quick browse through this magazine this morning at the servo and for all you 1/4 mile junkies it's good news for Ford fans. Pursuit is quicker down the strip than Maloo. Pursuit was 13.97 and Maloo was 14.3 I think.

I think the times were alot closer.

pursuit 14.37 v 14.47 by memory.

You know guys, rather than bagging the Maloo, you should be thanking HSV for it, for without it there'd be no Pursuit ute to talk about. The maloo has been the benchmark for street utes for years, with Ford only trying to win the SS/XR8 battle. I for one am happy to see the pursuit on the road, because HSV will only come back stronger in the next model, and the real winners will be those buying a new ute.

As for the name of the Maloo, I don't see the pursuit being much better really, is it named the pursuit because that's what it will be doing? pursuing the Maloo's rather than leading them??? :nyaah:

I'm not trying to stir up trouble, just giving you something to think about :nyaah:

Oh Mr SS Ute  , and WHO"S ute do we take when we have to go shopping........ hmmmm???

Who has to squish into the front of yours with your stuff :nyaah: .......hahaha

Who's ute has no arm rests ??? :nyaah:

Do you think the Maloo will be "stronger" in the next model or are Expensive Daewoo still going to produce the pretty car with power and totally useless in every other department, :nyaah: even my car comes with a 6 stacker CD player (ok big whoop).

I have noticed that Ford do produce their cars with the humans in mind and their comfort.

You have only described a phenomenon called competition, however don;t go backslapping HSV just yet.

The high performance utility genre has been around for a long time, with the Ford Ranchero 429 and the Chevrolet El Camino in the US.

The high performance ute has been sold in Australia since the late '60's and has been a staple of the major manufacturers in Australia for a while.

The 'Porta Loo' had the advantage when it came onto the market that there was no V8 ute competition.

There is no one else but Ford to blame but themselves when they shafted the V8.

The Pursuit is a brand name that has a long and distinctive tradition in the Falcon range.

The Maloo is a lame attempt at some sort of 'reconciliation' propoganda.

The simple fact is that the trailing arm rear end in the Expensive Daewoo still cannot compete with the well sorted leaf sprung rear end of the Falcon, not can it carry the load that the ute is designed for.

The fact is inescapable. Lou Bandt invented the utility for Ford in Australia. Ford has shown that when it commits itself to something it is the leader. The only thing that General Motors and HSV have done is put a burr under the saddle of the Ford workhorse and the only winners will be Ford and the customer.

I'm sorry, my bad :nyaah::nyaah::nyaah: I thought this was a discussion on the Maloo/Pursuit not the History of the ute, or who made what back in the 60's/70's. I'll pay more attention to the topic next time before posting.

The fact still remains that in recent times, as far as Australian made utes are concerned (I should have been more specific in my original post), the Maloo has been the pace setter and I welcome the competition between the 2 makes.

Oh yeah, and I don't know what bafoon at Motor tried the cars as the VY maloo does the quarter in 13.5 not the 14+ reported earlier in this thread.
