Does anyone know if someone with a provisional license in NSW can still register a Turbo car in their name and not drive it?

The situation I'm in is I get my open license in just under 2 months, been saving for ages.

The right car has come around early at a very good price, so I'm jumping on it. (Have it sit garaged, registered and insured - stare at it and wash it alot ;) )

Only problem is a need to get a small loan to make up the rest of the purchase price, and the person from the car loan company doing my application today was under the impression that a P-plater cannot register a Turbo car, but he wasn't sure.

This is bad because it means I wouldn't be able to get the loan until I get my opens.

Now there is work around's to this, I get my parents to register it for now etc etc. So the sale will go through on Monday either way.

I'm 90% sure anyone can register any car they want in NSW though, which would make life a lot easier, can anyone confirm?

P.S. The RTA office hours are down at 5pm, which is why I'm bothering you guys ;)

Cheers

Should be able to if you are over 18, just not drive it. If your parents did do it I don't think you have to pay anything to transfer it back to you either, because your family. If that's what your worried about.

Not worried about that, just a hassle. Would rather have it done with now. Do we have any regulars who work for the RTA? haha

Anyone can register any car as far as I am aware. I could register a BMW M5 even if I didn't have a licence.

Yeah, it does get flagged. You see on those cop cars they see a car and go 'oh, that cars registered to a restricted licence holder and there's no p plates. Let's have a chat to the driver.'

Even illegal immigrants can register a car and get a licence for that matter.
