Yeh so nissan and chrysler just bring their shells and take the rest off a Expensive Daewoo or ford. Then they will be all the same. While we are at it why have different shells , why not all drive the same cars then it will definitely be a level playing field. The series is a load of sh*t.

I would think they'd use a ford or chev engine to achieve parity with the cars already in the series, I assume that's what happens with Toyota's racing in Nascar.

IMO one the main reasons the class that allowed Sierra's and GTR's went out the window was because the same cars were winning all the time which, just like the Mick Doohan years, made it boring and we stopped watching.

The two make series promotes close racing due to the parity rules and also appeals to Aussie's by being Falcon versus Commodore.

However, as is reflected by most of the comments here, the formula has been around for a long time now and probably needs a shake up to get people interested again.

Outside of WRC and British Touring Cars, I still think they are the most exciting car racing around. The formula has just gotten a bit stale.

The current body shells used in V8 supercar racing are not actual body shells, they are made panels and may not reflect the actual measurements of the car they ressemble, so expect the same with any other parties that join in.

People go on about that they should race the cars that we can buy, there is allready a series based around production cars and it is not as popular as V8 supercars

Nissan and Chrysler don't take anything from Expensive Daewoo or Ford. The Car Of The Future, as it is called, is a specifically built chassis with 4 wheel independent suspension, 18 inch wheels and a transaxle rear end. There is only one chassis type which is used by everyone. The difference between manufacturers being the body which is used over the chassis, which must be a 4 door sedan. So no GTR 2 door racing coupes from a Japanese Championship. Think something more along the lines of a Maxima body style. The engines have to be from the same manufacturer as the body. Just like NASCAR. Toyota developed their own engine to comply with the NASCAR regulations so they could compete in that Championship. They don't use a Chev, Dodge or Ford engine. Nissan and Toyota both make some great V8 engines. V8 Supercars Australia is still to decide which Nissan engine will be used in the new category. But all manufacturers engines will be designed for parity in performance, just like they are now in both V8 Supercars and NASCAR. I know it's not the type of racing that most of us would like to see, but it is all to keep costs down so the category doesn't die. In the Group A style of racing, development to stay ahead causes the cost of competing to be prohibitive for all but the most well funded teams and they become the only ones winning, which causes boredom and the category dies again. This is the only way to keep the series running well into the future. We should just see how it goes. It might actually provide some good racing.

I think you are quite wrong, they have a very large audience, bigger than any other motoring class in Australia, this forum or any other does not give an accurate indication of the average person and their habits/preferences etc.

This is reflected by the attendance figures they get, the sponsors that sign up to be part of it and the amount of cars that want to race in in.

I don't mind it, I'll watch it if I'm bored, never paid to go to a race though. There aren't many categories like it, banging panels, getting thrown around all over the place.

I don't mind watching most motorsport though, same as I couldn't care if my coon had a ford or Expensive Daewoo badge.

I think there advertising and the lack of coverage of any other motorsport would be the main cause of that.

If golf cart racing was the only thing on tv I'm sure that would probably rank the highest.

Production racing has been shown on TV from time to time, it doesn't appear to get the audience. Major business's like Shell, Vodafone, etc etc will use market research to find out if their sponsorship money will return an income, they seem to come up with the same decision.
