So no I don't think so.

I would suggest that if you want a safe tune CMS certainly know their stuff, Cheers.Having only the cat done with still the rest of the exhaust being stock & yes it had a cooler & some pipe work I tuned this in close loop something that most tuners dont do, & I admit that I use to do this in the begining but having a better understanding of the concept preferr to tune in close loop I'll explain this in a minute..With the car due to the exhaust being stock that was the issue the more boost I tried to command, the more the timing was pulled out by the ECU so at 12 psi or 10 psi it didn't make a difference, another feature that the ECU has when tuning in close loop.... The main concern was that he wanted it to be safe & not really worried out the power level !!...exhaust flow, to give you an easy example lets say you have a 2'' water pipe & you have a 10ltr bucket of water, pouring in the water at a slow & steady rate the 2'' pipe will flow the water out with out a problem...now your pouring the water faster but you cant get the water out quicker enough it starts to spill & water starts to flow back.. try the same with a 3'' water pipe or a 4'' water pipe the larger the diameter the better the flow & I've also checked this with a back pressure gauge that I've made, IMO any moore than 4 psi @ 6000rpm then you have to much back pressure for a turbo engine. So the turbo is basicly a pump the quicker you spin that pump the quicker you have to get it out, now with close, loop Ford engineers have developed safety features that stops from overboosting corrects the boost & timing in all conditions... so why turn them of as some tuners do pretty stupid I think ..... why not tune with them on & letting the ECU keep the power level in all weather conditions, summer when ambient temps get hot it pulls boost out but advances the timing & not pining !! in colder temps it add boost & calculates how much timing it needs & not pining !!the only time I dont use close loop is when I'm making some decent hpLets face it every one wants as much as posible but at what cost ?? if you have the hardware then its easy the turbo works effectively end result power is made at lower level of boost, let me ask you what would you preferr 330rwkw @19psi or 300rwkw @13psi..?? I know what I want.... when you have one of these GT35 comanding 19psi of boost & making that low power what damage is happening ?? have they disadble the knock retard function ??? can the ECU pull any more timing out ?? is it detonating ?? how can you tell in the car reving its nuts out ??Tuning for max power is one thing making it safe is the other.. I cant tell you how many cars that's come to me for a retunes & most of the time I can't do the tune, due to exsesive blow by (detonation)..... another one was last Friday he wanted a core replacement & tune he drove from Newcastle, futher checking found massive leaking past the rings in 3 cylinders. he bought the car from some one else who had it tuned, I wont mention the tune shop.... look, there's some good tuners out there & some that have more bling factor & I'll leave it at that..The other thing my Mainline dyno is honest....now I'm not going to go into the dyno debate here but what ever you get on my dyno it will on an average read higher else wear....oh the other thing is that any car that come to me having a twin 2.5 exhaust never makes any more than 350ish rwkw ??? Every tuner and dyno is different in this case its not the power figure that's being argued its the fact that no more boost could be commanded with any tangible result... On average with your mods people make the power easy in my case I have a 3.5 dump and full exhaust and a sh*tty monza cooler which is holdin me back but again im not really interested in the power figure I just want it to haul ass day in day out hot cold rain hail or shine which it does quite safely atm even though it now feels slow to me lol
Finnyman Member 28 Member For: 15y 10m 13d Posted 12/02/12 09:29 AM Author Share Posted 12/02/12 09:29 AM as I said he knows his stuff... obviously tuners dont tune with the safety features from ford as there seems to be alot of people just wanting those rwkw figures... I love having this much torque knowing that joes done it properly. Anyways lets see what the 1/4 mile says... thanks for that post too... clears things up a bit
