I have xr6 turbo just installed oil pressure gauge what oil pressure should I be reading? I have been running 10w-40 nulon black 38% less friction, I started the car cold the other night it was about 60psi and started dropping after 5 minutes running it started dropping slowly done 56 then I turned it off I thought it was little high but not 100% sure what is everyone else getting

Just had a quick look at the oil your using. There isn't much info but it does state that flash point is > 100. Should really be >200 and doesn't state viscosity index. Im not sure I would put this oil in my lawn mower. Got to go with Jetsnot on this, Cheers

Had a bit of a scare today, now I'm new to this car and not sure but I still want to check.

55-60psi idle cold start, 40ish psi cruise.. but then when nearly home after a good 20mins or so, the psi was dipping down to about 20psi at idle, is this bad?

Quite worried, big thanks to anyone that can help me out!

I thought it was supposed to be much less than 50 hot idle? Yes has oil in it.

Just checked again, engine still at running temp, stable 25 psi

what oil are you guys using?

Penrite (10w/50 fully synthetic) is what I use. I would recommend any good quality oil that is fully synthetic, only due to the fact that it is cycling through a very hot turbo. The reason I use the 50 and not 40 weight is because a 50 has greater shear strength when hot. That is it creates more distance between moving parts when under extreme heat. The down side is slightly reduced performance and economy. And not ideal for the oil pump if hitting limiter. The up side is reduced engine wear, especially under boost. I suspect that it may also reduce blow by, but don't quote me on that. Cheers

Ford specify min 40-60psi at operating temp @2000rpm, not idle.

Will vary depending on oil used though. If it gets too low the car will tell you, providing the sensor is working ok.

So 55-60psi cold idle, 45psi cruise and 25psi hot idle sound on target?

FG 2010 Sedan btw

Edit: Thanks Impellor :)

I'm just going by Fords workshop manual specs, that's what they list.

I wouldn't worry about cold idle as the rpm and oil thickness varies alot.

Same with cruise, it depends on gear, rpm, oil temp etc.

When you know the oil is up to normal temp, just chuck it neutral, rev to 2000rpm and see what its at.
