Heys peps, just had an issue while taking the mrs for a yeeros tonight. Driving down parra rd my oil light starts beeping/flashing, I pulled over at the next servo and checked the dipstick and if anything was about half way between 'add" and 'full'. so taking it easy from there ive pulled up at a set of lights about 15min later and again starts beeping/flashing. So now im on my way home and I start to hear a whining/grinding sound only under acceleration. Eventually getting home I allow a little time to cool down then turn the motor off, at this stage the shut down noise is pretty bad and ive never heard it that loud before. So tomorrow ill be disconnect the 45' joiner to the turbo and hope for the best.

Leo

Unfortunately yeah, my car isnt driven alot these so an earls turbo line wasnt a priority for me. I was reading a few other threads and it seems a new core is the way to go depending on whether to housings are stuffed or not. Cant really afford new turbo at the moment as im getting married in november too.

The turbo oil problem does not normally cause the engine light to come on, well not in our experience with the dead turbo's we have seen.

There is a strong chance that you have an engine oil pressure issue and because you continued to drive with the oil light coming on you have killed your turbo on top of what the initial problem was.

I may be incorrect and hope for your sake I am, but a warning to all, do not drive or even run the engine anymore if your oil light is illuminated!

Thanks ratter, although when the oil light did come on, it was only on for a matter of seconds, hence why I pulled over at the next servo to make sure. From there I babied it home.

So do you think the turbo is dead which would require a rebuild?

Running the engine for even a little time with low load with no oil pressure will be chewing things apart due to lack of lubrication

If the blades are damaged it normally means that they have come into contact with the housing, if this is the case you will be best getting a new turbo as any excess clearance between blade and the housing will result in the turbo not working correctly

Should also add, You should not base your repairs on any info given to you on a forum, you need to have a proper diagnosis carried out on the car to get things fixed correctly.

If you put a new turbo on the car and have oil issues, you may kill the new turbo by driving it even for a few minutes

What do you think of the fins in the picture as I cant see any damage on the front housing? And yeah like you said I dont base my repairs on whats said on forums but it gives me an idea/indication based on other peoples experiences and if it happens to be right well I guess that's a good thing and saves time and money. Going off your experience what could be causing the motor (if it is the motor) to have no oil pressure, hopefully just needs to be topped up. What do you think? Thanks for help by the way ratter
