Hey guys,

I'm also new here and also looking for a BA Mkii xr6t. I looked at one today. Looks to be in good condition and drives nicely and I'd like to get my mechanic to check over it. I've come home and done a car history check. There is no money and it was never written off etc. There were no odo readings on it. but everything generally looks good. The VIN and engine number match but it has come up as GOLD colour when the car is actually dark purple with silver stripe down the side. Couldn't see any indication that it had been resprayed.

Would this be anything to worry about?

Cheers

Maxout, the only advice I would give anyone that is not mechanically minded IS DO NOT BUY A XR6 Turbo that has that many K,s. for that sort of money. There are a multitude of things that can fail, that are extremely expensive. Turbo $2500, Diff Bushes $1500, clutch min $1000, engine $4000 gearbox $2500(although unlikely) plus many other smaller things. This list alone comes in at $11500 give or take as it is a rough guide. Buy yourself a well documented serviced vehicle with low k's. And remember the asking price is rarely the selling price.Cheers

Hmm.. RACV doing a pre purchase inspection is probably your best option then.. They are pretty thorough..

Not really, my last one missed a huge hole in the radiator. 5 mins with the car running would of picked it up. Just depends on how good the guy doing it is.

For a T with all the things we know about them, I'd take it to a forum sponsor/ performance car based workshop (someone who knows these cars in and out) to get it checked out possibly chuck it on a dyno and see how it performs... I doubt an RACV bloke is gonna check the bearing free play or compression test the engine.. Plus my mum just had one done and it cost over $300 and we are members too..

that's the $100 000 000 question . Sadly even a car you drive straight off the show room floor can be the biggest lemon out there .

If you have your heart set on this car then go over every receipt carefully , they should have a stamp or something showing where the work has been done . I would then contact the workshops and just try and find a bit out about why the work was done or hade to be done . Do all the other usual checks REVS RACV etc ,you could even say that you would like to take the car to a respected turbo tuner for a quick once over, and something else I would do is to get a small magnet and a thin piece of cloth ( so you don't scratch the car ) and run it along the lower half of all the panels , If they are full of BOG the magnet will not stick . just food for thought.

Secondly don't stop asking questions on the forum as many as you can no matter how silly you may think they are this is the place you will find the answers to your questions and one hell of a lot of experience from guys & girls who have done it all before , Take with you a piece of paper with everything you have learnt and ask the seller of car every question under the sun , if he can not answer them directly without hesitation and starts to babble on then maybe you need to think its time to walk away .

Good luck & as PRMO PANDA said welcome to the NUTHOUSE ...... :w00t2:

Every question I have asked the owner he has responded quickly and thoroughly.

He has kept all receipts and always took the car to a dealer mechanic. I believe he purchased the car from a Subaru dealership so he got the car serviced there for the warranty. After that he then took the car to a Ford dealership for servicing.

I told the owner that I would like to get the RACV to do a check over the car and he welcomed it with open arms! I also asked him what the best price he could do is and the absolute lowest is $1,000 cheaper, so that would bring the car down to $13,800. It also comes with a roadworthy.

Ciaran - I don't hate Auto's. I got an Auto license initially and all my cars have been Autos. I just really want a Manual now.

+1 Spot on Dillz . Same as all the tuners out there.

MAXout this is your safest way to see if your buying a lemon or not .

Ok. Cool. The car is located around the Ballarat area. Is there any reliable and good mechanics who specialise or know XR6 Turbos well around that area I could take it to?
