MAXout, yeah a cd got stuck in the stacker and couldn't load or eject anything, basically it was stuck on eject so even the cd that was stuck wouldn't play... I had a mate that could fix it but thought whats the point, what was stopping it from happening again? I had subs and amps etc. from the old car that sounded awesome, and the std head unit in the T, even with an alpine line level converter or an LC6 the sound wasn't as good as an aftermerket head unit, so it was a no brainer..

The new facia relocates the cig lighter, so yes it is moved.

Just had to double check mine now, it is in the one where your stereo is . Thought I might have already had the facia installed after reading the above post, oh well...

hey. re: mechanical problems

deffo get the turbo checked for bearing play/noise

being a mk11 it should have a six speed? stay well clear of the 5 speeds

at that sort of kms the diff bushes will have been replaced but theres a very good chance of them needing doing again

lower ball joints on falcons have always been a weak spot, listen for a "clicking" noise while going into a corner

the rest of the car is pretty bullet proof, there the only weak spots I can think of the top of my head.

hope this helps, Andy

far out I have been scared out of owning my turbo after reading all that can go wrong, I ony find comfort in the fact that I brought it from a car yard and paid alittle extra for 3 year unlimited warranty on everything except the sunroof which only works half the time.

I also only wanted manual and that's what I got which I now wish I hadnt after driving my brothers auto xr6t in manual mode it feels much quicker even thou on paper its not! Any ways back to my point buy from a car yard you may pay alittle more but you have someone to blame when things go bad, you will have much more luck yelling at a car sales man than someone off the street....

dont worry mate there just things to look out for, compared to most cars that's a short list haha. im a mechanic and the only things I really see on these things are the radiators on the 4speed autos and diff bushes, which arnt the end of the world to repair, aslong as you catch the radiator befour its to late.

cheers, Andy

Thanks everyone for the further comments. It's great to hear so much input.

I know that there are a few people who are saying... "go buy from a car yard", etc but the thing is... I found a pretty good car for a good price. I just want to make sure it won't give me any problems. The likelyhood of me getting an XR6t if this one isn't mechanically sound is probably a 30-50% chance. I will possibly look at other vehicles.

I'm still organising an RACV inspection for peace of mind. However I don't think I've been able to get the Turbo bearing play checked as RACV won't/don't do it and I don't know how much I can afford to get the car checked for that.

RACV check is a good idea when you're buying from a private seller but like Dillz said earlier they can miss a wholerange of things. When buying second hand there's never any guarantees the car won't be a lemon, even if you do buy one from a dealership with a warranty.

I bought my 6 speed manual BA mkII from a dealership a year ago and after persisting with some initial problems with the turbo actuator (which they did their best to deny existed but eventually replaced) I haven't had a problem. Car has 170xxx on the clock now and 20,000kms since purchase doesn't miss a beat. I'd like to sell it and buy a BF Mk2.5 with the ZF but I can't bring myself to sell this car.

+1 for the MP3 aux loom from ebay. Best thing I have ever bought for this car!

Ok, so I have the option to buy an Auxiliary Audio Booster Kit for the car, if I do buy it that is...

But I have heard that I can buy an Auxiliary cable from Autobarn or Supercheap Auto or something that will cost like... $10.

Is there a difference between the two?

-----------------------------------------------------

I'm going to book in an RACV inspection for the car today. Hopefully it all goes well.

They won't check to turbo bearing play or compression test the engine but right now I just don't care.

Ford engines have been awesome for lasting almost forever and if worse comes to worse and I have to replace the turbo, well... it'll only cost me a further $2,000. I honestly believe the car has been treated well and it's in good condition and looks like it's been taken care of.
