The debate continues. I find it interesting that ACA put a bunch of young guys, up against expericened Police, and a Psychologist. Having completed Developmental Psych at uni, I find it fascinating that the Psych didn't once mention frontal lobe development in adolescence. And that risk taking in adolescence is apart of human nature, and identity development. Which is alluded to in her tribal mentality comment. She really could of expained this in a way that people could understand why young people do this, and how it is built into human survival programing. Instead she just attacked them.

Also, lets fill the room with hoons that have been caught doing massive speeds just to balance the arguement. This further installment has just added to the poor public perception that car enthusiasts have to contend with. As Tracey stated at the conclusion, there is no real solutions, she's right. That is unless every young person has surgery to remove their Amygala.

I say, knowing how the brain develops, it is societies duty of care to provide facilities free of charge, for young people (and old) to gather, and express themselves, and thier cars (as a car is an extension of identity) in a safe and controlled manner. Of coarse their going to feel confident, they have just spent 10 years playing their playstation, doing 300 kph plus with no dramas at all. Further, there is tremendous hype around cars that come from the factory highly powered, but hey lets stick our head in the sand because no one is going to go over the speed limit, are they ? I wish I was there, my arguement would have been directed right at the Police, and asking why if these speeds are so dangerous, then why infact are Police not calling off pursuits until hitting 180 kmh.Anyway had my rant about the ACA "setup a hoon for failure program".. Its really about time that a collective is established, because this topic is starting to build some real negative momentum. Cheers

Also ACA know their audience demographic very well. Look at the type of people they feature in their stories:

Anti Hoon/Unemployed/drugs stories: tThe biggest ferals they can find.

Anti banks/loans stories: People that clearly didnt read the terms of their contract properly, or even consider the maths (oh no, I thought that 18 months interest free meant I didnt have to pay for 18 months!). They then use these people to prove how the banks are ripping us off

Anti Council stories: some poor old biddy who parked her car on a footy oval, then had her car towed. How dare the council not put NO PARKING signs on the oval.

Then theres the people who whinge that the airport/sandown/chadstone etc are too loud/cause too much traffic etc, and how they shouldnt be able to do that - despite the fact that the airport/sandown/chadstone were there long before these people moved to that area.

So ACA isnt going to run a story they cant sensationalise, because then the people the above stories appeal to would stop watching.

Hope that made sense.

That post actually got me hard adie..

Going by the op, the guy in the xy got done for butterflys hanging out the bonnet 1-2 inches. Cop said if he werre to hit someone it would cut them up.

First of all if you get hit by an xy or any pre 70's car your f*cked regardless if theres anything sticking out the bonnet or not..

And how are emergency cars, taxis any different? All have lights and sirens all around them,, get hit by that and itll cut you up more then the xy will..

Um..Why?

And yeh, the damage that would be inflicted if hit by a car with a bull bar would be shocking as well, and the car that ran up the back of mine recently was destroyed by my tow bar. And before anyone mentions that these things are useful, dont forget that there are plenty of feral utes out there will bull bars that only leave the city for the yearly pilgrimage to deni.

I understand and agree that there has to be limits, but I think we need better explanations as to why they're there. "Because I said so" is not a valid reason.

  1. Why just because someone did some research and we know how a brain develops should facilities be provided "Free of charge". The people shown on ACA are a special breed.. They'll probably race to the free track.. Have their fun and then wrap themselves around a pole on the way home.
  2. You'll bag out the police because they hit those speeds.. I guarantee the average joe cop has more training in defensive driving then you and 180km/h is the absolute maximum. If there is traffic around cops will call of pursuits even 10 or 20 kmh over.
  3. You say confidence comes from video games? It comes from hormones and showing off also.. Probably a much greater contributer then video games.. Lets Ban need for speed and solve the road problem.
  4. Hype around buying a High Powered car? Nil argument here. But just because you can buy a gun doesn't mean you can shoot people with it.. You still have to exercise control.

Look this argument will never be solved. But I fail to see how anyone can blame this on the government or on the police. All of us have done stupid things in a car.. And spur of the moment alot of us still do.. (You only need to look at the TOP SPEEDS thread to find this out).. Private road my arse..

I've seen alot of people saying on facebook oh they'd rather be on the show then those idiots cause they could say this this and that blah blah blah.. No matter what you said I bet the footage would've been chopped to make you look in the wrong.. The adjudicator of the debate himself was taking sides with the cops from the start.

I don't believe street racing is the cause of all accidents.. Or that many for a fact but they do cause some and given whats involved with burnouts and street racing it makes them more severe then an ordinary accidents.. They are then sensationalised.. Because it's a minority that everyone likes to hate.
