I just insured with shannons the other week. They are now owned or joined with AAMI as I tried to get a quote from AAMI but they couldn't find the car on there records (dumb fcks) and he kept saying I will put you through to our other firm! I didn't know what he was talking about and kept saying that I can do it online and the car is there so insure me... In the end I got the sh!ts and said just transfer me and it was Shannons!

I got the F6X insured and it was approx $750 a year standard and $825ish with mods being the intercooler and 20in rims, cover was for agreed $44000.

You tell them every mod and they just adjust it accordingly. Excess is only $450 now too which is excellent as opposed to the early years when I was with them. I'm 33yrs old now though.

Will see what they are really made of when or if I ever need to make an at fault claim with them!

In comparison though Youi quoted me $2800!

I tried about 2 years ago with my skyline (N/A). Perfect record. I hope they have changed. I was really disappointed at how a "car enthusiasts" insurer would pick and choose the enthusiast.

Shannons website (for online quote)

We can provide you with a online premium estimate if:

  • You are the registered owner of the car.
  • Your car has no pre-existing or un-repaired damage and is in a good state of repair (except for Laid Up cover only).
  • Your car is for private use.
  • Your car is valued at $50,000 or less.
  • Your car is not for business use.
  • Your car is not your main form of transport and you don't use it on a daily basis.
  • Your car has been insured in the last 30 days.
  • All drivers are aged 25 years or over.
  • None of the drivers have lost or had their licence suspended in the last 5 years.
  • None of the drivers have had a vehicle stolen or written off in the last 5 years.
  • None of the drivers have had any insurance cancelled or refused.
  • None of the drivers have had more than 2 motor accidents (including fire & theft) in the last 5 years.
  • None of the drivers have had more than 4 traffic infringements &/or offences (excluding parking fines) in the last 5 years.
  • None of the drivers have had criminal convictions in the last 5 years.
  • You are currently not bankrupt or in receivership.

RACV never requested I have half of these requirements.

that's for online quote . CALL them up.

I'm sure you are right - there will be a better premium. For my age I think it won't be as low as my current though.

I get that all insurance companies will take you for a ride. I just can't get over the requirements for shannon's.

The amount of effort to deal with them turns my wallet away.

Why do they bother having an online quote if its going to be like that?

....I got $50 off my annual amount at RACV for getting the quote online.

They are basic question that every insurance company has (read the fine print) and that the people on the phone actually ask "have you been fined in the last 5 years" etc, etc.

Remember all of us went through this when we were under 30 also. I paid $600 a yr for a piece of sh!t HR Expensive Daewoo when I 18, $2k for the EF XR6 when I was 19!

Just got a quote from shannons (over the phone) which beat the ass out of my RACQ cover. I covered my wifes car also in the quote with 3rd party legal liability insurance and it still came in cheaper.

All mods and accessories were covered, 1 free windscreen and a protected 65% discount if a make no claim within 3 yrs.

You really do need to call them up. They say that they will not insure anyone under the age of 25 but if you can prove you're a car enthusiast and have a clean record then they will insure you.

I have called numerous times and its a been waste of time. Obviously other people have better experiences so im not bagging Shannons!

The key question each time has been "is the car garaged", "No, in drive way with alarm", "Sorry, no inurance". When asked to compromise, "sorry sir, garaged vehicles only". WTF?? No other insurer has worried about a garage or simply increase the premium if not (ive been with AAMI, RACT and Allianz) - very disappointing service/policy, especially for a 30+ rating one driver with two claims in 14 years driving..........

Anyway, Shannons club seems a great thing and the shows etc they have seem pretty well organised.

ps: I cant believe you got $2500 a year for two F6s and FOUR motorbikes - Aaron, they must have made a mistake!!

they give discounts on every extra vehicle

As do most insurers but that is still VERY cheap for 6 vehicles......well done to Aaron!

Especially after the pricks wouldnt bother insuring even one for me I guess.....ha ha
