Very lucky. It was a massive adrenaline rush.

I suspected something was wrong about 20 seconds before it happened.. The car just did not feel right.

I was in the right lane at the time and decided to knock off 10km/h and switch to the middle lane.

It was when I changed lanes that the tyre sheared completely.

whoah - that's nasty :nono: I sympathize with you - put a brand new Michelin PS3 on the rear and it got punctured the same day I put them on :nono: Now I always buy the tyre insurance whenever I buy new tyres - it's like $15 extra per corner but covers you for punctures and replacement value to whatever tread is estimated to be left (so a puncture with brand spanking new tyres would be almost a total replacement value).

I was told Michelins have pretty thin rubber on the side walls (which is where I got the puncture) - so I won't be buying the Michelin PS3s again.

I was very worried about the wheel as I was limping along the freeway at 20km/h, still 2km from the service bay. Listening for metal on concrete.........

However, I was thinking, "What is more important, a cheap $250 wheel or attempting a wheel change on the Newcastle Freeway with less than 1m to spare on the curb?"

Glad I went the 2km now.

Wheel was still fine though, as I really babied it there to a safer place for the change to spare.

Have ordered a Safety triangle on ebay today though. :)

I saw a trailer have the wheel rubber peel off it like a round donut - it was metal rim on road stuff. It happened 2 cars in front of me along the New England Highway - thank goodness there was a bit of shoulder to pull over to :omg: The wheel rubber was genuinely rolling along the road free wheeling like a penny farthing - I kid you not - was like something out of a movie :nono:

So their car tyres are the same as their bike tyres.

I run an extra 3psi with Michies. Same thing on the PP3's for the bike. Great grip but the sidewalls are way too soft.

Funnily enough Dunlop make a fantastic bike tyre called the Qualifier. Shame they don't up their game for cars.

How do you go using two different tread patterns on he car front to rear ??? I have done that before and it did not go real well when playing hard.
