It will make stuff all difference to the way the car actually goes. It will cost a fortune as well - and the money could be spent on 50 other things to improve the actual road feel of the car.Changing the diff gears can make a huge difference to the power band of your car. My previous car was BA Ghia 3V which had a 3.23 diff, after exhaust, intake and tune it went very well but once the 3.73 diff went in it was a different car as the tourqe of the 3V was put to better use. It cost me $450 exchange and $250 to remove the old and install the new. It was the best $700 I spent on the car. I agree that lower diff ratios will help ( a bit ) with lag in highly modified cars - but in all reality, it seems to me that a power improvement is money better spent.I totally agree that any N/A powered car with 4 speed gear boxes do respond well to this and my VP 5 litre wasa godd example. But having seen a diff change done to a VE 6 litre 6 speed auto that was making 250RWKW and it only ran 0.1 seconds and less than 1 mph faster in the 1/4 mile, I am cautious. The VE did "feel" better on the road - less kick down under light throttle - but it did not translate to any sort of actual acceleration increase. However - its not my money or car so each to their own 1 Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/78462-31-diff-gears-for-bfii-xr6t-automatic/page/2/#findComment-1185613 Share on other sites

turbotrana Member 2,586 Member For: 22y 20d Gender: Male Posted 26/01/12 04:21 AM Share Posted 26/01/12 04:21 AM (edited) Turbo cars like the lower gears as it loads the turbo up better. I have tried very high gears (like 4:1) in turbos before and the turbo doesnt come on boost as well in the lower gears. It actually slowed the car down (manual) as you were in and out of gears so quick and didnt get full use of the turbo. But it did save my gearbox. It does take a whole load of work off the gearbox. So going with a 3.23 with a ZF would probably allow the input shaft to survive a bit better. I can understand why its easy so easy to twist the input shaft with 2.73 gears.
