Today and yesterday when I have got home and got out of the car to open the garage it has had a ticking /chattering sound from the front of the car, it isnt the injectors and it is louder with the bonnet closed and seems to be coming from behind the bumper/grill region, and I checked when I started it this morning cold but it was as quiet as a church mouse.

I cant notice it when reving it or from inside the car while idling only once I get out so it isnt really loud. Unfortunately my tuner isnt back till the 16th so I thought I would ask you guys.

Could it be idler pulley?

Idler pulley and a belt while your in there would be a good start, although I think the pulley is more of a squeak from memory. Do a search, its been covered in here already.

Yeah I have and some say its like a squeal and others say a ticking sort of noise. My father in law thought it sounded like a water pump bearing is on its way out ,he reckons it sounds like a car he had that needed a new water pump.

Idler pulley makes noise when cold.. Goes away when warm.. +1 for water pump.

my ba had a noise I swore was an engine problem. turned out to be the springloaded arm that the idler pulley is mounted on.

I dont think its a major issue (I hope), just wondering if I should take it to a local mechanic this week or wait till my tuner opens next Monday.

Worst worst case scenario it would be the timing chain floppig around. But I doubt it. I'd say you would be okay and it's probably just a pully. Perhaps stick your ear on the end of a large screwdriver to try and pinpoint the noise. That's helped me a few times.
