I only got a new car because I wanted to get a BA Falcon. If the BA didn't have such great looks and performance, I wouldn't have bought a new car. I got the XR6T because that's about as far as my budget would stretch.

Pretty much the same scenario for me. I had an EB GLi stock 4.0/auto but lowered with 17s but it was getting the miles up and I wanted to update to something newer. I wanted a performance car but couldn't see the value in an XR6 over a base model GL. XR8s were overpriced IMO for the power they put out, Series 3 AU were tempting but big money.

Then I started reading about the T and everybody was raving about it but I never thought in a million years I would ever be able to afford one. But the seed was planted, aliens had taken over my mind! I would deliberately drive out of my way to go past the Ford dealer and eyeball the BA XRs.

One day I thought I'd just stopo in and see what sort of trade in they'd give me on the EB. The salesman wouldn't talk money, instead offering me a test drive of a T. "OK", I said and off we went. I wasn't expecting much, thinking the media and forums like this wer all were over exagerating. The first thing that surprised me was the sexy exhaust note which I also thought was quite loud for a stock factory car. Then I stood on the loud pedal and the thing had some stick, at least as good as any XR8 I'd come across.

Mmmmmm...brain was working overtime now. How can I afford to get one of these? $50,000 for a car, what was I thinking?! Couldn't get it out of my mind! Rang the bank and did a hypothetical with them on the phone and they said there shouldn't be a problem. So I filled in the forms and then went back to the dealer to try and negotiate a c/o price. I knew what an XR6T was worth retail and what accessories were available thanks to you guys and so was rather peeved when thye salesman came bac kwith this figure as his "you beaut discount price". No discount he reckons, selling faster than he can get hold of them. No sale me says, never paid retail price for anything in my life and not about to start now!

Went back to work and contacted the Fleet Manager and asked him to try and negotiate something for me. Came back with a price about $1500 cheaper. I then went back to the dealer and tried to haggle again. He wouldn't accept the fleet quote saying I was a retail customer and would have to pay the retail price. After a couple more days of negotiation he genoursly discounted the price by a whole $800. Better than nothing I suppose!

I was originally going to get Phantom, but have always liked Red so that's what I ordered. It was approx 4 bweeks from order to dlivery. The car was ready a week before the finance came through! THe rest is history.

For me, I needed something sporty, and with a bit of go. Came withing inches of signing on a turbo AeroTop Supra mmmmmm, but then there was all this hub-bub about Fords new BA, as soon as it was released I test drove an XT(felt like a boat) and signed up for turbo.

the only reason we got the xr6 n/a was that some fella was looking for a 98 V8 fairlane, the next day the dealer rang us up and said that he sold the fairlane without mum and dad knowing so mum picked the xr6 because of the colour which is harvest green and she hates white

I got the T because the WRX had to many miles on it. Time to change and I got an option on a $h1t hot deal at the right time. Now I get the car of my choice for under $40k (thanks to tax exemption).

HURRY UP FRIDAY! TOMORROW, TOMORROW, ILOVE YOU< TOMORROW...

I had a look at the WRX but was disappointed with how cheap the interior looked. I had a MY97 and the quality was far above this years model.

I thought about the B4 as the Liberty was always my favourite, but decided on the BA GT. When I went into the dealer it was really a case of buying the GT with nothing optioned or buy the XR6T and option it up.

The XR6T won.

plonky> I believe FMC USA make RHD cars for Japan - Mustangs are quite popular there, weelll, if 400 or so cars a year can be called popular.???

Keeping the Alfa 147 for my wife was a lay down misere' (she loves it and wouldn't part with it)

I really loved the 156GTA but thought the 147GTA was a better car but didn;t want to wait.  Also was very close on an M3 and a C43 but went the Mustang for a number of reasons:

Huge factory discounts from Ford

A large fan base of Mustang owners in Australia

The only RHD Mustangs produced by the Ford Motor Company in the World

Initial depreciation will plateau and the true value of the car will be recognised in a few years

Sexy sound and looks and big balls performance

I was also very tempted on the GT but thought that in a year or two they will finally go lightweight and increase the power so the Mustang was the obvious choice.

On coppers wage :oooh: :o

ps dont care we all get the money for our passions where we can find it just wanted a chance to stir a copper at the time of year they are MADE to give us a hard time

I'm told they allow the LHD there ... think Ford Australia were the first and only on two occasions ... back in the 60s and now ...
