Outstanding performance; the optional automatic shifts quickly and smoothly. Good brakes. Compliant ride. High levels of grip. Excellent sports seats.Dislikes: Looks like the cheaper XR8 but for the GT stripes. Road noise from the tyres. Shakes at idle. Silly starter button (you turn the key then press the button). Thirst -- mainly 20-plus litres/100km.Would I buy one? No. Thirty years ago it would have been on the must-have list. Today's GT is more of a marketing exercise -- and too thirsty, even for a revhead.-- Bob Jennings

I mean this was deliberate!I was against it then and I am now, but that’s just me.
Redhawk ....Time to lay this fairytale aside...... Donating Members 2,657 Member For: 21y 10m 10d Gender: Male Location: In the Ferry on the River Styx, not getting out just yet! Posted 05/12/03 06:38 AM Share Posted 05/12/03 06:38 AM The trouble with all these car magazine tossers (sorry) testers is for years they have been fed a diet of 'statements in plastic and fibre glass' from Expensive Daewoo and Jap manufacturers.FPV are being true to the original concept of the GT, hell if they look at the original XY the stripes were basically all that set it apart from the standard Falcon. The BA GT is a slightly warmed over BA in looks. And sorry there is no mistaking the GT for a XR8, the front bumper and rear spoiler see to that.Interesting to note that the things that count on a GT, the motor, drive train, brakes, handling etc; they were impressed with. Will FPV take any notice of these collective tossers.......NUP!!!

Posted 05/12/03 09:27 AM Share Posted 05/12/03 09:27 AM Interesting note to fuel consumption.Asked my dealer about the GT-P they have as a demo, it's auto and done 5000km.........17l/100km, not bad or a demo. And yeah 100%.........if your worried too much about fuel consumption, don't buy a performance sports car.20l/100km.......sh!t......they must have been really booting it!! Bob Jennings is not a Tosser! He is very respected motoring jouno and had made his living from testing cars all of his working life. Its his view and one somewhat substantiated by many other jounos. The GTP just doesnt have enough hit for the money or the fuel consumption..If it went a bit harder then they would all rave. But it doeent. And that's why the Xr6 T is the car to have!See I told you should not have sold your HgAg........

Thirst -- mainly 20-plus litres/100km.Bob needs to research his pricing a bit better if he wants credibility, l think he's 10 grand out on his RRP for a start.20lt/100km is just bull$hit, why do jurnos publish that crap? l got around 13lt/100km out of my XR6T, and now get 14 out of the GT. How can you take a car on a 100km flog and report that economy as typical? Its articles like this that put me off reading just about anything written by a car jurno. Drive it yourself, if you like it buy it, but dont let jurnos influence your decisions. And yep, it shakes at idle, and l luv it
