Hi All,

As the topic says I had a 1L bottle of oil sitting on the back passenger floor and when the kids have got in,1 has stood on the bottle and has leaked out,(said child did not tell me she did it!!).So when I went to get it out the bottle was almost empty!! :censored: .Does anyone have any suggestions on how to remove the leftover oil from the carpets to make it clean and dry???,apart from replacing the entire carpet??..

Any help is appreciated!

Step 1)

Im just re thinking my advice you would want to clean it with some alcohol based substance first methylated spirits, Isopropyl alcohol I would put it in a spray bottle and spray it and mop it up with a rag/mic rofibre or suck it up with a wet vaccum to try and get as much up as possible you need todo this first to break down the oil or you will have a residue left over from the oil.

Step 2)

Then hit it with another spray solution of any all purpose cleaner (APC) or alternatively get some Meguiars Quick Out Carpet foam and spray it on and suck / wipe up with a cloth just keep in mind you may have to do the first step 3-4 times to get it really clean and get all the residue out.

Hope all gos well.

If this doesnt work you could also get the carpets steam cleaned the sooner you get onto it the better results you will have.

I had it happen in my boot, luckily I had put in another layer of marine carpet for carting tools. Took it out, soaked it in truck wash then hit it with the gerni, had to repeat the process a few times.

throw it away and get new carpets. You will never get the smell out and everytime you drive your car you will hate your kid.

Agree here. It may seem fine for awhile but you will notice it on a hot day.

If you must clean it..

- you need an emulsifier to merge oil and water, (all purpose detergent, heavy duty car wash etc.)

- hot water in 2 litre bottles.

- go to the local car wash and pour water/soap mix as you vacuum. Working mix into the oil.

I had a spill on the front floor of my car and this process worked great for me. ( I didn't spill motor oil though )

Does need a good vacuum though (most are good enough)
