Guest JESMAL Guests Posted 07/02/03 08:19 AM Share Posted 07/02/03 08:19 AM I've thought about the water spray thingy. I used to drive a STi Type R before finally switching over to the XR6 (not a stupid idea coz the XRs are much classier than the race boy Rexers)...it had a front mounted BLITZ intercooler with water sprays on. During the hot summer weather, it made little to no difference in intercooler temp....but in winter condiitons, only slight improvements...not sufficient to justify the amount spent on the entire set-up. Therefore I'll skip this idea for now unless..........
Guest harasn Guests Posted 07/02/03 10:33 AM Share Posted 07/02/03 10:33 AM I dont know if you guys have ever seen it, but years back the was a toyota T-18 with a turbo on it that had a very special intercooler on it. The owner was a refrigeration mechanic and he actually put in an extra air conditioning evaporator into the intake so that the intake air would be cooled going through it just before the throttle body, so instead of loosing power when the ac was switched on, he had super cold air going in. from memory he had to change the air conditioning gas from R12 type which is flameable to freon which isnt, just incase the intercooler leaked and put the gas into the motor. Would be an awesome idea and relatively easy and cheap to do. extra lines,a small evaporator and a box with it in it and holes in the end for the piping. it also had a ball type restrictor valve to control the amount of ac gas that flowed through the engine intercooler as to much and it would basically freeze the air. not that's a cold air intake system. will try and dig out the article if you like

Guest Bathrone Guests Posted 15/02/03 03:50 AM Share Posted 15/02/03 03:50 AM Harasn those ac coolers are not efficient enough to be warranted. The ac uses more energy than what the added benefit of higher intercooler efficiency provides. THis is why drag racers continue to use the one use holeshot ice boxes and similar.IMHO, until someone cracks the ECU, any mods are pointless given the control modern ECUs have over an engine.
