Car Stalling

Hi All,

Was wandering if anyone can assist with a problem my FG is having.

The problem is the car tends to stall, the idle is at a little over 500rpm and it idles quiet smoothly, however if I jab the throttle and let it go, the idle drops below 500 and will occasionally stall, not a problem in my driveway however when I drive on one particular hill and try to move up a little bit, the car will most times stall leaving me with no power on the hill, a little scary at times as the cars behind have no clue that I can't move!

It also is quiet bad at slow speeds (Christmas light hunting) and in peak traffic and on a VERY rare occasion at idle the car hunts up and down as if it has a vac leak.

Things I have tried that did not fix the problem.

1. Cleanout of throttle body and all intake piping.

2. Cleaning of MAF sensor

3. Removal of BOV and a few other BOV.

4. Inspection of ALL vac lines (no leaks evident)

Another problem I am having (though im not sure if related) is high fuel usage even when taking it easy (currently sitting over 13l/100) and that's very conservative driving.

Only mods thus far is a CAI (90 degree bend off the turbo, 3 inch pipe), Center muffler removal and aftermarket BOV. engine wise the rest of the car is stock.

Any help at all will be greatly appreciated as I am wits end here!! :)

Cheers

Marc

If you have had it tuned, they may have altered the idle revs. I have had similar trouble with my BA, and

the tuner has just plugged in his laptop, and reset the idle. You can do both cold, and operating idle.

Hi Guys,

There is one airflow sensor before the elbow leading into the throttle body, I very gently cleaned it to avoid damaging it, I have not had it read for fault codes yet and it hasn't been tuned, previously it was an ex police car though I doubt that has anything to do with it, the problem started after I installed the CAI, it would only idle roughly when cold then it went away and now it prefers to stall but has perfect idling, I did try spraying some carby / throttle body cleaner around all the vac lines to see if it changed the RPMS noticeably but nothing changed at all, haven't tried the manifold gasket as yet, the idea never occurred to me.

Average speed is gone as I reset the computer this morning, however the drive to work is a steady 70k's the whole way stopping at only a few lights, I coast gently to a red light until it turns green and then gently continue my drive to work, same for the drive back. Just reading more posts and noticed that other people are getting 15l/100k's so I am convinced that the fuel consumption isnt a problem, plugs are yet to be changed (80000k's on the clock currently) and all other service procedures have been carried out as per the manual.

Cheers

Marc
