Fuel Consumption

Hi guys

I have just become the proud owner of a '07 F6 Typhoon R Spec Ego and could'nt be happier. Beast of a car!

I've been reading through this awsome forum (and some others), slowly but surely enlightening myself on the potential power this awsome car is capable of.

However, reading through alot of the fuel consumption threads, I've noticed that there seems to be something much different about my phoon. There seems to be a concensus that ppl are getting around 12-15L/100km city driving.

I've put a few tanks of fuel through the phoon and it seems the best Im getting is 17L/100km. Even wierder is that this doesnt change whether im boosting or not. I've driven a whole tank through with minimum boost and conservative driving, and Im still getting 17L/100kms. I filled it up and barely got 350km out of the tank...and that was pretty conservative driving. I had factored in high fuel consumption when I bought it...but it seems most ppl on this forum are getting much better economy.

The question is, is this normal...or could something be wrong with the tune or something else? I would greatly appreciate some input and suggestions in sussing out whats going on. Or should I just stop worrying and just boost all day long!!

Thanks in advance!

Edit: Its done about 97000kms and Ive only ever put in 98. The dealer said it may have had a flash tune, but other than that its 100% stock.

My current tank is at 18.4L/100km about 1/3rd the way through it. 0 freeway or highway driving, just local city roads (traffic lights every 200m etc). If I can get some freeway driving in, I'll get it down to 12-13L/100km. I just don't worry about the fuel consumption anymore, I just drive it and enjoy it. If you were worried about fuel consumption you could get an i30, but you would get over the amazing fuel use and instead lament the fact that you have an econobox.

Thanks, very valid point. Im not that worried about the fuel, the power is well worth it, had an economy car for years...would never go back. Just wanted to be sure it wasnt a mechanical fault with the car. But yeh sounds the same, I've done no highway driving with this tank and getting 18L/100kms so far. Sounds like it may be all ok!

Drive down a long bit of road like a freeway at 100kmph, turn on the instant fuel reading. If it is showing between 11-12L/100 then your car is stock and everything is fine.

Even that's a hard comparison as different road surfaces can play a big part, how flat the road is, tyres, tyre pressures, fuel, people in the car.

My BF2 auto xr6t is crap round town don't even bother to check it, on the open road though at 100 on cruise 8.5-9.5 with only myself in the car.

Most I've has from one tank was 640ish 95% freeway/highway

What's your average speed? that's the key indicator. I only average 32km/h as I drive mainly during peak hours in the NE surburbs of melbourne and I get 15l/per 100 thanks going gentle ish! If I use the boost it's into the 18's but on the freeway going it will do less than 10 l/per 100 kms if I was going for a long cruise.

If you're getting 400 from a tank it's not too bad for traffic conditions

I got my phoon 2 weeks ago y

today and from the day I got it ive averaged atound 13.5l per 100 for close to 1000km that.ive driven it.my commute includes all sorts of driving with a fair few squirts ( love the spool).one tip is when cruising at 60 flick it over to manual mode and drop it to 5th and into 6th at 80. ive noticed in normal drive mode it wont do this.I hardly doubt this makes THAT much of a difference but
