ported head while it's off.

what engine you starting with?

...................Is a ported head really worth the extra coin? maybe on a real hypo motor but don't think it's worth doing.

Yep, should get to around 350 for about 25k including car if I play my cards right. Then will need a clutch lol. Would of cost me about 55k in the Limo so bit of a blessing in disguise I guess.

I know Micks trying to talk me out of it but isn't most of that stuff rebuilding a blown engine? Like exhaust manifold gasket? How/why would that need to be replaced?

not trying to talk you out of it at all, just making sure your eyes are open.

That list is what should go into a proper rebuild, not just a blown engine.

The only difference with building a blown engine and a rebuild is replacing the extra parts which have been damaged by the blow up .I.e block, sump etc.

When building an engine clearances have to be checked sometimes 3 or 4 times until things are done correctly, this means the engine may be assembled 3 or 4 times to get things correct.

It piston to bore clearance is wrong you will end up with a motor that is either noisey or may nip up. If crank clearances are incorrect it may grap a bearing or have low oil pressure and be noisey.

Why would you build a motor and not put a freash timing chain in it, you would kick your self later if the timing chain which may have already done 100000 klms let go and you bent valves and damaged pistons etc
