tyres only covered for 4,000k's

Scotty

Sorry Scotty, we had a customer come in the other day with 22 000 klms on the clock and he had splitting sidewalls, he drove away with 4 brand new SP 3000 A's.

Not sure who told you only 4000klms, I have the service bulletin in front of me, and it says nothing of the like.

AXW01,

has a tyre with a shifting steel belt & couldn't even get the 1 tyre replaced, it's now on the cars rear as it can't be balanced. Whilst it isn't split it's still faulty, how bizarre.

What sort of cuts should I do with my Stanley knife & how many?

Scotty

I have 18" GT Radials on my car, came with the wheels when I bought them. Been on the car for 2,500 trouble free kms, then last Friday, within 250kms, blew the front right tyre twice.

Did it once at 5.30pm on Friday arvo, took back to the dealer (they were there late for End of Month). Fixed ($280 later), back on the road, explanation for the 15" tear on the inside side wall was that it was probably just something on the road.

About 250 kms later, in the pitch dark, about 20mins past Fish Creek, same violent shuddering through the front end, then, just as I had found a place to pull over and check it, all over. Back on the STUPID 80km/h limited steelie.

Exactly the same damage to the tyre as the first one.

It was pointed out to me by one of the traffic guys at work that the GTs (originally off an AUIII TE50) are load rated at 91, the BA requires 92, so techically the car is unroadworthy and not insured.

While we are talking tyres, any ideas out there? Only doing highway speeds, any fellow Victorian out there would know you are mad to travel too fast on the South Gippsland Highway! The affore mentioned traffic blokes will stitch you up!

Shouldnt the factory 18's have Dunlop SP Sport 9000's on them? Or is it SP 3000's?

Guys,

As per my post in (chir chat - The big Lap)

I had issues with 3 of my SP3000A tyres. I was in a Beaurepaires joint at the time and they did a warranty job on them but I had to pay for useage. I have since spoken to my local dealer and plan to do a warranty claim when I get back home in at Christmas time.

If you go directly to a Beaurepairs place they will charge for tyre ware. If you go to a Ford dealer they are fully covered under the bumper to bumper warranty.

I spoke to a guy at South Pac Tyres (who make them in Somerton Vic).

the issue is that that compound used in the SP3000A's in the side walls is too stiff. If mainly happens in the colder places like NZ, Tas, Vic. They are covered no matter what the KM traveled. He advised that the issue could be due to weather but mainly to under inflated tyres. The SP3000a sould be inflated to about 3-5 PSI over the rating of the placard on the car and the issue may not happen especialy when towing!. I had both fronts do it and one rear. So I only have 3 newies. I am waiting to see if the 4th does it. I have mine inflated to 40psi (when cold) for towing..

I have pics of the cuts.. Here they are..

Regaqrds

Brendan

I have had two 3000A's replaced. Both had 30,000kms on them and under the Ford warranty, both were replaced with brand new ones due to side walls splitting.
