At a guess I'd say 15k would get the job done right. Doing most the work yourself.

15k???? did you get a quote from nizpro?

3-5k for a written off ba/bf and do it all yourself. not everything needs to be brand new.

Complete fg engine 5k

Gearbox 4k

Diff 1k

Replacing all bushes rubbers brakes and anything else a 700k car will need. 4k

And a bit for backup when things go wrong 1k

Just trying to be realistic, you don't wanna get half way through and run out of cash.

New 5spd = 2k

6spd = 3k

Few bushes, maybe intercooler/radiator and your done.

8K total

There will always be hickups on the way but since it is a long term project you don't really need to take this into account.

If doing this over a weekend then maybe add another 1-2k for sh*t to go wrong.

Clutch and diff? Better to be safe then sorry I reckon.

15 might of been a bit much but I think it would get up there.

I was estimating around the 10k mark, considering I can find a written of ba turbo for about 7k..leaving me about 3k for things such as bushes and anything else I need to replace...would also leave me heaps of spare parts that I could sell and get some cash back. ive got a car already so this project can take 5 years if need be

how good are the ba turbo transmissions in terms of strength? swap over the engine, trans, diff whatever else needed

Ba engines and transmissions are weak. Both can be made stronger at an additional cost.

Would probably be cheaper in the long run to avoid them.

dont get me wrong id absolutely love a fg engine but I just dont think I could afford to spend that much...is there much difference in the fg and ba setup? as in is there much hassle interchanging them or is it a straight swap?
