I drive my ZF in a different mode every 5 minutes. If I'm at the front at the lights I knock it into perf to beat the other lanes and once cruising in traffic I'm back to auto and if I want it to hold in a lower gear ready for rapid response I'm in manual

Was thinking myself before I bought the car "manual for sure" then after looking into them, reading a bit and driving one, love the auto!!With it in manual though, even in 6th, if I stomp on it, it'll drop back to 3rd, same in other gears. Squeeze it down slloooooowww though and its ok. This normal?

If you put your foot flat you can feel a couple of notches this is a auto kickdown so for WOT without kickdown you don't need to hold it on the floor. Funny story. The idiot at the dyno day in mt gambier said my box was f*cked cause it wouldn't stay in the selected gear. Only cause he was trying to put his foot through the floor. I drive in manual mode aka tiptronic aka sequential sports shift mode 95% of the time.I only use full auto when it's stone cold, until I turn a road or 2... or for drinking from water bottle. I also hate the down-shift when planting the foot in auto mode, I'm so used to manual mode that the timing of the shift from start to finish feels unnatural and harder to predict/more likely to spin tyres when giving it herbs. I do coast to lights in neutral for a fair distance to save fuel a bit as well

For if you were in trouble and needed to boot it to avoid an accident but didn't have time to shift out of overdrive.

I have driven a few Audis/BMWs recently and their "manual" modes are exactly NOT that - might as well just leave it auto as they do whatever they please regardless of gear selection!! ha ha Edited 01/12/11 10:12 PM by CBXRT

Reidos Member 32 Member For: 13y 3m 26d Posted 03/12/11 12:34 AM Share Posted 03/12/11 12:34 AM I almost always drive in manual mode when taking off or slowing down but cruising it either perf or normal. The kick down in manual is due to pressing a little button when the pedal is pushed all the way in. You should be able to feel when you press the little button.(null)

I like that feature, but am so used to manual mode now that D or Perf mode auto downshifts scare me under decent throttle!
