Losing Power/boost Under Full Throttle As If Choking :(

Hey Guys,

Recently bought a 2005 BA MKII XR6T Ute and I love it! Only 1 issue (so far). It seems to lose power or boost pressure or something under full throttle. It seems like the car is choking and it bogs out. I have a flash tuner that I can change the boost between factory, 8PSI and 10psi. I looked into the problem and from what I found it seemed the ignition coils and plugs were at fault. These were replaced and the problem was solved... or so I thought. Its definitely better than before and the car can run 10PSI now (was horrible before) but the bogging out under full throttle has returned. I've had a recommendation to have a de-carbon service but I don't know if that would help. Really appreciate any help anyone could offer! Really loving the forum and especially the boosted falcon ;D Cheers! Tim.

Im with what Freeze dk said. You might also want to check or replace the fuel filter and get the fuel pump tested to make sure it supplies within specs. If you are going to run the generic tunes run the 8lb tune till you get a custom tune not the 10lb one.

Engine could be running lean? Mine did something similar years ago when I did the intank pump mod and used normal fuel hose at the time and it wasn't submersible safe. Ended up the hose had split so I had little fuel pressure!

Thanks heaps. Yer I replaced the coils and plugs very recently but I might check the gap again. What would you guys recommend? 0.8mm? Also the throttle body was replaced just before I bought it too. Just drove it home from work though and I think it just changed to an XR5T :/ so I think I really need to check my coils and plugs. I'll let you know how it turns out. Any more suggestions appreciated. Thanks

Could also be your tune.

Boost mapping needs to be accurate and if that is not the case, then your engine will shut down the boost, only for it to return again after a second or two. Especially seems to happen in the lower RPM ranges.

Exact same problem I am having, although mines tottaly stock.. Did you end up working out what the problem was? I replaced my coils with second hand ones roughly 8 months ago, changed the spark plugs, they are currently gapped at 1.1 which I was told was stock gapping..
