This has now happened to me twice and I was hoping someone could shed some light on it.

I have a 2010 FG XR6T automatic. I was following someone this morning I was going about 55km/hr. I'd like to point out that the cruise was completely off, so it was not using the engine to slow down, I know what that feels like and this was different. I tapped the brake, (the person in front of me was soooooo slow), and suddenly the revs jumped to 4500rpm. It seemed stuck on 4500rpm, despite braking more or accelerating more. It only righted itself after about 5 seconds when I hit the flat and started back uphill again. The revs dropped back to normal and the car did this little surge and it went back to normal.

What gives? This is the second time now.

4500 sounds a bit high. The ZF has hill descent mode. So if you're going down hill and you hit the brakes it will assume you want to decelerate. It will change down to assist and will only go back to normal when you flatten out or speed gets slow enough (don't know what that is). Way to quickly fix it is go to PERF mode and change manually. Depending on your driving style will determine how hard it worksand if you have to hit the brakes to initiate it. Mine has hit 4K before but not 4500, but I guess that's different circumstances. It's normal.

I get nervous about engaging if I think police are within range once or twice I have hit set on the cruise and it accellerates flat out to about 20-25 k's above where you pushed it then disengages until you get back down to speed where iit picks it back up again, Great if your setting it because there is a radr ahead the only other cruise problem is every now and then it wont come online and the "cruise" flashes on the dash you have to push the brake pedal (decently) before it will come online

the cruise control will not set and flashes the warning if the brake pedal has not been pushed since the car was started, if yours is operating differently you need things fixed

Couple of things,

Was the trans in D or Performace ?

What rev's where you doing when it jumped to 4500 ?

Also does you car have an after market exhaust ?

I have noticed my car doing something simular when it was in Performace it will hold revs after accelerating

I have also done a center muffler chop and I have notice that the car strugles to compresion brake

Thanks all.

The car has not been modified, (yet). I was In D, just crawling behind someone who wanted to take the entire Commanarra Parkway, (Sydney Street), at 45-55km/hr. Yawn. Car was at around 1500 before it spiked. There are a lot of ups, downs, twists and turns in the part of the street I was on.

It surprised me as ive never really experienced it before. Perhaps it was just slowing down for me?

Not a cruise issue, it wasn't even on.

Thanks for the suggestions and I'll check the thread to see if anyone has any others.

:)
