Tyres and wheels

When modifying the wheels and tyres on your car you need to be mindful of a number of rules.

Tyres should not:

  • Protrude past the mud guards.
  • Foul on any of the bodywork or any vehicle component when locked from side to side.
  • The tyre load rating must meet or exceed the manufacturer's specifications.
  • The manufacturer's specified vehicle track must not be exceeded by more than 25mm.
  • The rim should be no lower than the lowest part of the vehicle.
  • Using low profile tyres outside of the manufacturer's recommendation can cause the speedometer to read inaccurately and this can lead to speeding fines.
  • Incorrect tyres can also affect the fuel consumption and performance of the vehicle.

When modifying wheels and tyres always refer to the manufacturer's recommendation on the tyre placard. Going outside of this recommendation can invalidate any warranty outstanding on the vehicle and also render the vehicle unroadworthy.

That is strait out of the rule book son. Should read it before you give out bad advice

Relevance XR09? That's exactly what I said, if it meets legal requirements you can have a wider tyre.

With due respect, you are obviously out of your depth. Leave the legal issues to professionals, and you handle your job.

ps: Don't call me "son". Its patronising and makes you appear very foolish when wrong. Secondly, its not helping the OP for anything you are saying on a topic you clearly know nothing about. Thirdly, its "straight", not "strait".

If you are that old to call me "SON" then maybe its time to have a check up. You are obviously poorly educated, and given that, its best to leave it to those who can actually HELP the op rather than just cause an argument with me.

I dont tell someone how to build an engine - because I have no idea. I suggest you do the same regarding legal issues. The OP can definately get his diff fixed if he only has a CAI as a modification.

That's the end of discussion for me.

Ford make sure the rules fall in grey areas for this exact reason.

Get real son. Just because you are a legal professional does not mean you know what you are talking about.

I'm not going to get too involved in the argument cause I have no idea what is right or wrong here but my understanding from reading up at the ACCC website on car warranties is that if you modify your suspension that doesn't invalidate the warranty on your ICC and if you modify your battery (move it or whatever) that also won't invalidate your diff warranty.

My personal opinion is that they will decline warranty for the Diff because of the CAI (as XR09 said) but if it was taken to court you would win as it would be easy to show there was no relationship between the parts to cause such significant failure (as CBXRT said).

Or is it R-E-S-T-E-C-P

A bit of lite humour to break up the serious nature of this topic.
