Update on United E85 at Arundel on the Gold Coast. The pumps were closed tonight on the back of the alleged problem. However, Hi-Torque heard the rumor also and tested fuel today before they were shut down and it tested 95% Ethanol.

So it sucks on a couple of fronts really. Nothing wrong with what's in storage now but you can't access it. If it did come out at 40% in the guys car, well maybe it got contaminated off site as it's 95% today and I don't think they'd be selling truck loads of the stuff yet. So, he won't know what happened either. Maybe it's just brisso's spinning chit 'cause they've only got the eflex shandy mix :mosking:. Whatever the reason, it's robbed people of getting fuel now until United's own tests come back and confirm what was fact this morning - 95% Ethanol. I'm not on the stuff yet myself so it doesn't concern me at this stage. For the people that are though, I hope they fire the pumps back up as soon as.

Would 95% be bad for a car tuned on 85%?

I understand 40 would be shocking but thinking along the lines of Holdens Flex Fuel capable cars they can only take a maximum of 85% ethanol.

Also I think those test tube testers can be shonky so anyone using one of those should maybe do a couple runs..

Can only speak for Hi-Torque SIP but if the fuel is higher than 85% at tune, Ashley puts margin in it. So if you get a real good brew, you just make more power :)

If your car has been tuned on 85% and next time you fill up it's 95% It's going to lean out. I had this problem with eflex. When it was tuned the eflex was 73%. Bout a week later filled up and car was leaning out. Tested the eflex and it was 78%. United seem to have a higher ethanol content but are just as inconsistent as caltex. Sucrogen FTW.

Edit. All tuners should put a decent margin in it no matter what % it is considering the inconsistencies found with pump e-70-95%

Now I'm not a chemical engineer.. But surely it isn't hard for a company to calculate how much ethanol to mix with how much petrol to guarantee E85???

Surely the ethanol/petrol combo doesn't undergo any form of separation?
