They are still going strong riptide.

Used to work with Fred Krueger years ago. You need to come back for a visit. A lot of changes since 1990.

yeah I was under the impression you had to shim the spring so they open to specified lengths avoiding the bind at full open.

Ive only come across this info recently so I was curious as to wether it is really necasarry.

alot of people on here havent bothered as far as I can tell?

I dont think you will have issues with coil bind on full lift with std cams.

Riptide just using better intake springs was a good idea with good results,Nice bit of thought went into that!

That sounds logical, Can anyone else confirm? (no offence intented). Im leaning towards not bothering and just wacking them in. but knowing my luck :s

It just depends on how well you want to do the job and whether you have the equipment and knowledge as to what spring pressures you need for your application. If you cant measure spring pressures at installed height you may as well just chuck them in as you are pissing in the dark from then on. You are not really going to get a good seat to retainer measurement using verniers also. You need the proper tool. Just because a spring says xxlb at xxheight does not mean it will measure up to it either If others have chucked them in on a virgin head and had no problems then you may as well also.

If you are worried about coil bind then just measure the seat to retainer with verniers (it does not need to be spot on) and put the spring on a drill press to get it down to that height to check coil bind. This is the easiest thing to check and I doubt you would have problems with stock cam. Its no big deal to check this
