Unless you are just after dyno numbers for bragging rights I would stick to the small turbo, the car is so much nicer with this turbo on it and capable of running the car into the 11's on pump fuel

What? Nobody on here is after bragging rights surely. :buba:

Andy, just be carefull you dont get in over your head. If you have a blowup, you will be parking the car for a long time, unless you win the lotto, or have rich parents.

But if you get the right bits, and get a conservative tune, you should be OK.

thanks for all the advice guys. yes L plat I am young, but please dont stereotype me with most other young blokes with fast cars that hang out sideways around every corner and do ridiculous speeds everywhere and want to go faster regaurless of what strain its putting on the engine. I love my car and plan on only using top quality parts. $400 isnt that bad considering my living costs arnt that much (ute loan, board, fule and beer) also will be on 3rd year pay near the start of next year. a few of my mates have xr6ts that are moded and I have seen the cost of maintaining them (just helped my mate put a 6speed man in a ba after his 4spd auto sh*t its guts out haha).as a mechanic I can do just about everything myself so dont need to fork out on labour, just parts which saves a bunch. I just want to do this once and do it right, ie. put all mods on car (minus turbo mods, dump and cat and injectors until the last minute as I still want to drive it) and just tune it once. until I get bored again and earning more cash, then the rods/pistons come out and the real fun begins :).

TRA1NR is that 320 kws with or with out the wastgate port?

if you guys were to safely max out a fg engine (350rwkw?) what turbo would you fit? ba or different?

cheers once again

Andy

ANDY ANDY ANDY I think you missed the point I was trying to make , and buy no means was that buy stereotyping you as being a young bloke behind the wheel of a very quick car without a brain between his ears , quite the opposite .

As I said ( I think you sound like a smart kid ) and reading your posts you make that quite obvious in the approach that you are taking with what you are trying to do with your car . ( doing your home work , asking lots of questions and listening to people who have the experience ) . S**t Andy I hope with your experience as a 2nd soon to be 3rd year mechanic you can teach me a thing or two.

Andy the point I was trying to make is that these cars are addictive and once you start to play it becomes very hard to stop , the only thing that dose stop you is just how deep your pockets are . Trust me we all want more .

I have a BF with 325rwkw which spools up pretty quick and has enough power for me. More than I can put down a lot of the time and mines a sedan not a ute. After reading another thread on FG performance and spool-up speed I was wondering what down-sizing my turbo would do. Have you driven an FG with 320rwkw?

I find the low down torque after fitting the new exhaust to be one of the best mods I've done.

arg. the more I read the harder it is to pick as you have to sacrifice something to gain something. (completely of topic but anybody tryed variable vain turbos on them with succes?). sorry L plate, I just read my last post again and it does sound like im accusing you, it was completely unintentional, sorry. I got the right end of the stick, my grammar just let me down haha.but thank you. I know first hand about the petrol head addiction (hence my datto has just about the most powerfull a15 motor ever, honda crf50 with big bore, stroker, forks, swing arm and that's just to name a few mods, and dont even get me started on my old 4x4 lol) I will stop at the 350 mark as its not a good time for me to strip a motor at work/home atm, but some day haha

cheers

Andy

Ive often thought about the variable vein turbo idea too. My thoughts (which may quite well be wrong as its just my idea) are that you dont need the low down spool that a diesel needs, the big 4.0l spools the turbo up easily and it would probably need a controller of some sort. Its a question that I would like a definative answer on though from someone that actually knows.

I have driven td hiluxes and td hiace vans(lux has variable vein and hiace doesnt) and what a difference! although the lux is 3L and hiace is 2.5L but there is a big difference. its really the perfect solution. I hate to think of the work/tuning and even getting a computor to control the damn thing eeh
