nitro xr6 turbo Banned 185 Member For: 13y 28d Gender: Male Location: perth wa Posted 16/11/11 03:15 PM Share Posted 16/11/11 03:15 PM hi guys, im new to the forum as iv just bought a fg xr6t ute lately and have a few questions (beware!! I am a newbie) I know you guys will be getting asked all the "what do I mod first?" questions, and yes I have looked through the forums quite a bit but cant seem to find exactly what I need to know.im having trouble with my turbo leaking oil and coolant, ford cant seem to find out whats wrong with it(after 3 visits!), shes only done 23000kms. So as im planing to mod the ute anyway,(the usual injectors, cooler, piping, fuel pump, tune, exhaust etc) my question is do I get rid of the leaking fg turbo and put a ba/f one on (im told they bolt straight on???) or a different turbo altogether or do I keep going with trying to fix the fg one? I read my fg engine is good for 350rwkw? I kinda want to take it to the SAFE limit without a rebuild as I am on a 2nd year app mechanics wage which is little over $400 a week which seems to go very quickly and I do suffer from a bad case of cb I guess its limited by springs/oil pump/rods?, so is the fg stock turbo capable of making 350kw?or would it be pushing it to its limits? and if I ever did build the engine atleast with the ba turbo I would be sorted turbo wise to 650-700hp as I read somewhere.regarding the intercooler side of things iv seen alot of you saying the pwr stepped intercooler and the coolerworx piping go good togeather, I can find pwr coolers on the net but cannot seem to find anyone selling coolerworx piping, so if someone could hook me up with a website I would be very gratefull!thanks in advanceAndy

These things can cost a fortune if/when things go wrong. If when things are going good they can cost more than your usual car to maintain properly. No point in you forking out the $$$$ for fords f*ck up Edited 16/11/11 09:32 PM by MiKa

I hear 330/350 or even 400??? but that seems to be pushing it. cheers for that guys, in away to checkoutthat thread/ebay now!Andy

The only problem is the level of risk increases.. I started modding my 05 WRX while on a 3rd year apprentice wage.. I spent alot of time hitching lifts and walking to work.. As you did up one thing something else would let go and you'd be farked..I'm with Mika and Mr 4.0 upgrade the piping so you can tune up the boost a bit.. Maybe smack in a bigger cooler and a tune for now.. Even just tuned these cars will hand VE SS's their arse at the Traffic Light Grand Prix.Oh and if you're really keen jump on the group buy for pipe work! we need 2 more! It's just bank deposit to someone who then posts them out.. In the case of the more expensive things we would probably pay Coolerworx directly..Tunes are expensive.. (Decent ones anyone.. There are some reasonably priced ones on ebay )I'm happy with the stock power for now and just stockpiling all the required parts in the garage until I can go ahead and get it tuned.. But how you want to go about will be ultimately up to you.. You'll know your finances better then any of us can give advice.. But just make sure the parts you buy (Cooler, Injectors, exhaust) are able to handle the power you want down the road if you ever think you'll upgrade the turbo.. Better to be too big then too small!!

I hear what you are saying and you sound like a smart kid ( I am guessing quite young ) .As you would know Andy its not just as simple as changing one thing and seeing the benefits , you have all the supporting mods that need to go along with it and on $400 a week ( I think you get where I'm coming from ) .You also need to think about insurance . Insurance companies don't like moded cars , and then also the cost of running the car . Your fuel bill will go through the roof . If I was you , I would give your baby a good wash and polish put your bordies on and hit the beach . The girls will love you , and the car. Good luck with what ever it is that you decide on doing .
