I would suggest at service time, you leave the car with them over night, go in to get it in the morning and get old mate to sit in with you at warm up. A thrust bearing or spigot bearing should make no noise.It'll probably still last forever as it is but that doesn't mean you should put up with it.They will probably say it's normal because it means removing the tranny to replace it and they'll try to bs you.
