Had a noise about 20 secs after start up. Went to ford thinking the worst and it turned out it was a loose harmonic balancer bolt. . The dealer had never seen it before and needed to call ford techs. They diagnosed it from experience with highway patrol xr6ts. Apparently it's quite a common thing with hwy cars due to high constant revs. At 2500rpm the noise vanished. If yours does the same then I'd be thinking it has the same issue

I forgot to mention to you guys in my original post that my XR6T is a 6 speed manual but the XR6T he started was an auto transmission as that's all he had in the yard, after hearing the sound he said to me "Your car is a manual hey, then it sounds like the thrust bearing spiggett,it's normal" or something along those lines,he then suggested when I get home to warm up my car until the sound starts & then try pressing the clutch to the floor & he said the sound will go away whilst the clutch is to the floor & he was spot on. Guy's I'm not a guru by any means when it comes to engines & stuff but he said that it is the thrust bearing spiggett engaging or disengaging something like that, can anyone give me more user friendly explanation. RAMPAGE Member 14 Member For: 13y 6m 18d Posted 15/11/11 10:30 AM Author Share Posted 15/11/11 10:30 AM Hey mate, when I take my foot off the clutch again the noise is still there, but the noise is only during cold start up,after I go for a cruise & the car is hot the noise is never there, other than that there's nothing wrong with the drive or clutch or anything,I'm starting to think it's just normal coz the dealer sort of new straight away,so unless someone with a FG XR6T manual can verify I not sure, cheerz. I have noticed that after goin for a hot lap round town, she idles with no noise. iam thinking the heat shrouds around the turbo might be the problem.... RAMPAGE Member 14 Member For: 13y 6m 18d Posted 29/11/11 12:23 PM Author Share Posted 29/11/11 12:23 PM (edited) Hey James,so does yours only happen on cold start up like not being started overnight & about 2mins into warm up,coz that's when mine does it,the dealer reckons it's something to do with the thrust bearing spiggot or something & it's normal but I don't know,I push the clutch in & the noise stops, have you noticed that with yours I'd be interested to know, but other than that like you said after a cruise & warmed up no noise Edited 30/11/11 02:16 AM by RHR Over quoting

Posted 29/11/11 09:52 PM Share Posted 29/11/11 09:52 PM Mate I would bet that you need a new Idler and possibly a new tensioner. I have had 3 idler because im fussy. Starting up from cold and they start to rattleDoes it sound like this?http://s711.photobucket.com/albums/ww117/xr6tpunx/?action=view¤t=MOV09053.mp4On a side note, James_Hunt why is it you have my car as your avatar???? RAMPAGE Member 14 Member For: 13y 6m 18d Posted 02/12/11 11:40 AM Author Share Posted 02/12/11 11:40 AM Hey Punx, Thanks for the reply & vid mate, after seeing your vid I can definately say that the sound is not that loud & rattley & not coming from the idler but the sound my car makes is coming from around the clutch area underneath & when I press the clutch in the sound stops but when I release again it comes back so that's why I tend to think it's not the idler & the cars only done 1400km's. Punx you didn't mention if your car is a 6 speed manual, cheerz mate.

Not had a problem with mine but have heard of others getting it overhauled to fix the issue. You just have to stick to your guns and get your dealer to take care of it. Try another car they have and hopefully that wont do it.
