'Blondes are best drivers'

smh.com.au

Monday December 1 2003

The popular stereotype of the dumb blonde could be shattered if accident statistics are any guide.

Insurance company Suncorp yesterday released a survey that shows blondes could be the nation's best drivers.

The nationwide study of car accident trends found that people who described themselves as blonde had fewer crashes than others.

They were also less likely to be the victims of road rage and second least likely to feel rage against other drivers.

But the study found fiery redheads lived up to their reputation with red-haired women admitting they were the most likely of all respondents to feel fury on the road.

"As a group, blonde men and women came out on top in the driving stakes," Suncorp personal insurance spokesman Warren Duke said.

"But the best drivers of all were black-haired women with only 47 percent stating they had ever been involved in an accident.

"Red and black-haired men tied for the title of the most car accident prone."

Mr Duke said Suncorp had decided to take a lighthearted look at a range of car crash data and found only 56 per cent of blonde respondents had ever been in a crash.

Well I'm not going to dispute the findings..but it would be interesting to know how many blonde drivers actually cause accidents....

After all, how many times do you see a dump blonde driving a nice car, and you turn and stare, wondering how on earth could she own such a nice car, when you suddenly realise the traffic in front of you has stopped....and crunch.

Whose fault is that....you for looking, or the dump blonde driving a nice car forcing you to look ?

What Suncorp failed to divulge :-

that only 80% of the blondes surveyed drove a motor vehicle;

that only 75% of those above actually had a driver's licence - the remaining 25% either were unaware that they needed a licence to drive (15%), or were incapable of passing the driving test and after ten attempts had given up (10%);

that, of the people who described themselves as blonde, only 10% were true blondes, 66% of the remainder were fake blondes, and of those, 80% dyed their hair believing blondes had more fun while the other 20% didn't actually know why they did it. Maybe these latter could qualify as true blondes by default??.

that only 5% of the blondes surveyed understood the questions.

What he said. :ta:

As for why blondes cause less accidents, it's because they're too busy fiddling with the tilt steering to get more headroom than to actually drive :lol:
