So there I was, scouring the web and looking for the release date of the MKII FG XR6T ute when I stumbled across this forum so I thought I'd join up and see what's what.

My name's Phill and I live in Perth SOR, am 44 or something or other.

Current wheels are...ummmm

A VE V6 Berlina, lowered with some wheels and stereo and stuff

A dirty old 82 Porsche 928 with a half done LS1 conversion that I havent touched for like, a year.

07 Harley Roadking

1992 Turbo Intercooled GSXR1216 Streetfighter (currently parked in the naughty corner and retired from drags because turbos and carbs on bikes just sh*t me)

2001 GSXR1000 Streetfighter (currently being turboed and set up for drags with air shift, lock up clutch, swingarm extensions)

2006 GSXR1000 Streetfighter (my roadbike now after deciding to race the 2001)

and

Probably soon to be XR6T Ute

I'm just about to finish building a house (well, the builder is) so there'll be pot plants and furniture to buy and I've got the bikes which need to get to the track or whatever, so that's enough excuse for me to justify getting a ute.

The missus was easy to convince, she gets to step out of her Corolla and into the Commie with the 20" wheels, so she reckons she'll be all gangsta and sh*t...... or whatever old chicks get when they think they're cooler than the other nanna's.

So I'll be looking around and mainly trying to decide whether jump now and buy a current model ute, wait a bit for a MK11, or if they're ages away, maybe buy a clunker ute until they come out.

So, if anyone know's anything about when they're coming on sale, I'd love to know.

Also, what's the tie down system like for bikes in the tray ?

In the mean time, I'll have a look around this place and make sure you're all doing this internet thing right.

Cheers

Phill

Sounds like you have good taste. It's a awesome place for bikes over there. I bought my busa over there and went for a few rides with the guys from Perthstreetbikes.com. As for the release date I'm not sure but I say don't buy an old heap or you may get stuck with it while your wife cruises around in your "gangsta" commy. Are you going to mod the xr6t?

That's a hilarious first post Phil. Afaik fg2 is just new bumpers and the touchscreen. If that doesn't interest you I'm seeing brand spanker Fg turbo utes advertised everywhere for $35k at the moment.

"turbo bikes sh*t me" "2001 currently being turbo'd"

Lol

Sounds like you need one asap, turbo cars the way to go. Don't bother waiting for the Fg 2 , as henz said it'll just be bumpers and a touch screen and if history dictates maybe 5 more kw. Wow.

As for tie downs I's convert it to a trayback, so you can cart a lot more gear, plus two bikes at once. However with the extended swingarms maybe only one bike with the tailgate down on a styleside would do.

Thanks for the tips.

I don't plan to mod the ute but I can't promise anything. My history has shown that I find it hard to resist messing with something that was perfectly good to start with so we'll see.

If I get a series 1 cheap, that could justify some mods like nice wheels and a bit of lowering maybe.

The new turbo bike is fuel injected so it should be much better behaved. The old one is a full on beast to ride and will lift the front wheel in any gear and at any speed but I have trouble getting a consistent run out of it so I end up going out first round every time.

I'll only need to carry one bike and some gear and I'm set on the styleside but I'll go check out a dealer today and see what the tie downs look like.

Once you settle on a ute pop on over to the WA chit chat area so we can dribble sh!t at you and invite you on a cruise (one on the 13th btw, no pressure). Welcome to the forum dude!

PS trayback on cruises would be awesome :P

My missus reckons if she wants to see a giant nob, she just looks over at me.

On another note, I went to see a dealer and it turned out that I know the sales guy, which was handy.

So this dealer has their first MkII XR6T ute with luxury pack arriving in early december so they are on their way.

But there will be no price incentives on it so I will pay full whack. They dont have pricing for the SII's yet but based on S1 price, this one will be up around $51k, which I'm having trouble swallowing.

The sales guy could not locate any Seres 1 XR6T's around on his computer but will check further for me next week.

So, my options are....

take one of the N/A XR6's that are in stock (boooo !), or

send out emails to all the Perth dealers I can think of to see if they have any Series 1 Turbo utes around, or

pay full whack for the new model when it comes, or

buy an AFM SS Commie ute (double boooo !)

The commie is nice enough but I'd really rather the Ford so unless they come in with a very, very good price, I won't go that way.

Ford's fleet discounts are sh*t so this might still win as I believe Expensive Daewoo can do decent fleet discounts.

Regarding the N/A XR6, TBH, I'd rather buy an XL and lower it, put some wheels on it and stuff to make it a cool cruiser than have a stock XR6.

I'm still keen on the Series II XR6T ute because I want six cyl fuel economy but also want to be able to bag it up if I want to impress the kids down at the milk bar.

So, after all that, I think I still want the Series II but I might just let go of my dick for a bit and not get the luxury pack model which will keep the price closer to $45k than $50k.

I get the GST back as well so that means it really costs me just over $40k odd.

So next week, I will start emailing dealers and see if theres any Series I's around town for sale, I will also scout out prices for a Series II, if the SS ute comes in at stupid price, then I'll have to consider that one too, but it's running a distant third.
