Hi Guys,

After a recent home burglary I'm looking to buy a safe (no one ever thinks of these things before hey), and while at it something fire proof to store documents too.

Looking for something between 20-30L capacity, decent quality and digital lock. It will be bolted in to concrete.

Gun safes are pretty good value but they are not fire resistant, so far found an Ardel safe 20L for about $850 there are also Lord safes slightly cheaper.

There are some really good safes on ebay but none in Sydney, most seem to be in Melbourne.

Is there anyone here in that industry or maybe someone that did their research and knows good safes or places to look at.

Cheers

yer wish I had thought of a safe too.

after being robbed about 6 times now, (different houses, some I was renting) I have nothing left to steal anymore :(

I now keep nothing of value, and I just make sure everything is insured properly inc my tools/ute.

LOL at nothing left to steal :)

I was looking at insurance but than I'm insuring all the furniture and everything and I'm sure no one will go steal my couch, dining table, bed etc. so insuring all those is a waste of money I just want to insure the small valuables which thieves are actually interested in stealing and those fit in to a safe easily so figured that's a better option.

LOL my cousin just got one, not sure of the details but it is fire proof, dunno how much was spent.. He keeps it in a cupboard not bolted down or anything lol.. so if you broke into his house the safe makes it easier to carry all the valuables out...

That's pretty dumb unless it's a real heavy, otherwise they will just pick it up and slowly open it at home even if there are no real valuables in it.

Best to leave keys (or code) next to it so they can open it and take things they are interested in and leave other sh!t behind :)

Which makes having a safe pointless..

The wife just bought us two "Heavy Duty" filing cabinets.. They are both fire proof as for both our home businesses we have to keep documents for a freaking long time. Admittedly they are only key locked.. Not keypad or retina scans or anything flash... But they require 2 keys.. She tee'd em up through a local office supplies company.. They aren't as heavy as my parents actual safe.. But it still took me about 30 minutes to get each one from the front door of the house to the office.. Wtih stuff in them they ain't going anywhere fast.

My old man had one in his shed, along with various angle grinders, impact drills, oxy torch etc.. etc..

Not to mention all the safety gear and even instructions on how to use them.

I thought that was amusing.

I did a job for a customer who had a safe in his garage. Looked like a bloody fridge, I thought it was until I noticed the dial.

It was 2k and was originally installed in a bank. Apparently there are companies that do second hand safes from banks, PO etc.

Just go and visit your local locksmith store Dule and check them out, or the more 'affordable' ones at places like Officeworks.

If it's something you're not going to be accessing frequently I'd probably advise against full electronic, but otherwise it's a case of just getting something that fits. Keep in mind though that nothing is ever going to be theft-proof...just a case of making it harder for the fckers.
