Replacing Diff Already!

I have had my XR6T (Manual) for approx 1 month now and has 3000Kms on the clock.

I took her in for the 3K service and I mentioned to the service guy that when lightfooting (lightly tapping) the accelerator there was a slight clunk noise coming from under the car. (Sometimes barely noticable)

Under closer inspection, there is too much backlash movement in the DIFF. And they now need to replace the DIFF.

Has anyone else had any similar complaints?

Regards,

-RR

Your lucky you are getting a new diff for the clunking sound. Most of us get the "they all do that, sir" and the "its within specification" from the dealer.

Me? I learnt to drive a little smoother, still clunks a bit though.

very lucky, I complained about the same thing. It is really frustrating when you are in 3rd or 4th doing the local speed limit in NSW 50/60km and the clunking starts at the touch of the accel pedel. In my previous XR the clunking was mainly when changing gears?

So you had the bad driveline cluck that is so common in these cars WhiteXR6T and they agreed to change your diff? You are very fortunate that you dealer is doing this, most dont even want to know about it. l have had this problem in both our XR6T and now GT, both manuals.

Who is your dealer?

3000klm? Soft! Mine was replaced I think from memory around 1000klm's old. Mine wasnt clunk, it was a whine.

And no, there wasnt any whine in the boot!

thanks for the input.... I guess I am lucky to have them replace it. I just mentioned the problem, and they had a look and then said they can replace it.

My dealer is Graiwall Ford in Gosford.

My diff is being replaced cause it's leaking, (started at 1700km)

Make sure you insist they order a new one otherwise you could end up with with a service exchange unit, which I was told is normally what goes in when I questioned them. I told them I wanted a new one cause of the low miles, didn't think right to be lumbered with an exchange diff. Don't know how I'll tell the difference when it arrives though?
