I reckon they are making a bold move. But if it sorts out their problems good on em!! I'm a bit scared though. Got 6 flights booked for November already.

Even if the hearing tonight sorts out their workforce they have a long way to go till people have confidence in them again.

But their staff are apparently already paid more then their virgin equivalents.

So the board approve a 2.2m pay 'rise' for the CEO - then he shuts down the whole show. I'm sooo over these high flying (pardon the phun) CEO's. Middle class is being absorbed into lower and these pricks gladly accept a 2+ millon pay rise and stiff working class for less than CPI. How do these f*cks sleep at night.

Good on them.

They all like to carry on about Joyce's salary but miss a few key points, he's on less than the previous Qantas CEO and less than he himself was getting at Jetstar. Yes he's still getting an obscene amount but in pure business terms as a factor of their turnover and performance it's bugger all. He's still underpaid by CEO standards.

Then look at what these poor hard done by pilots, cabin & ground crew are dealing with. Base pilot second-officer salary for Qantas is $110k, vs. $35k at Virgin. Their top pilots earn double what the top Virgin pilots get, $540k or something for working 500 hours per year. Is being paid $925 per hour unfair? That's almost what the CEO is getting paid (based on a 38 hour week, no doubt he does allot more than that though) but he's the greedy pig?

And the moron unions are carrying on about the billion dollar profits. So what, if you're a shareholder you want a fair return on your investment, 5% is nothing to get excited about. You're better off whacking your money in a term deposit rather than investing in a company like Qantas, and the unions want to make them even less profitable? Seriously? Waste of space bottom feeding scum.

So yeah, good work Joyce. About time there was a bit of a shake-up.

From what I understand - the maintenance crew isn't even chasing CPI, more about job security and keeping the jobs in australia.

The pilots get good coin, but how much coin has been invested to get that far.

Turbo ute 79 - I'm not avoiding them as a way of standing up for either side, I'm avoiding them to save myself headaches stressing about if I'll get to a job on time.
