Frost plugs comes to mind. Especially the one between the motor and gearbox. That was the only one I did when mine was out.

If it's manual I would check the clutch. I would also do the actuator and port the wastegate if it's not done already, assuming you're going to put it back assembled.

Helps control boost levels and flows better. I think there is a thread with a how to on porting. I pulled my turbo off and got it done.

It's to avoid overboost and MUCH easier with the engine out. If you are going for larger injectors or more power later on you may as well do the actuator too because it's a bitch once it's all together. There is plenty of advice on that too :)

I changed my turbo studs for bolts because the studs have to be removed if a certain aluminium plate is still in place and there may be much swearing and cursing.

You might get away without it but it costs nothing if you can do it yourself.

The standard flapper is ok for modest gains.

I used a die grinder to open the port out to almost the size of the flapper without removing the flapper itself, maybe 1/2 to 1 m/m overlap. I found the 1/2" spherical carbide burr to be the quickest for removing the metal. I wore leather welding gloves so I could really stabilize my hands so there were no accidents. One slip could ruin it.
