Yeah exactly, maybe that helped get the 11.7 with minimal mods?

no cos it had a herrod cat back too

next time out at heathcote a slower track it went 11.6 with the STOCK intake, not an XR8 snorkel even, just a K&N panel! and stock catback!

just sounded cool

factory airbox will allow a 10 if you have a big turbo, sure its a slight restriction but it can do it.

That's sorta what I'm gettin at, I think the 4 inch may be too big.

It's all about the PSI (per square inch), what creates more pressure? Sucking through a funnel or sucking through a straw?

If you have it, do it.

Cant see it being more responsive than 4" though, or less reponsive for that matter. The filter is the restriction not the pipe size over that small a distance.

But saying that, a smaller filter will be more restrictive than one for 4".

Restriction isn't what I'm worried about as I know for a fact the stock setup can flow enough for a ten, I'm thinking response/intake noise (16 pound through a three inch is gold). As much as I know your intakes are the sh*t man I just want to try something different, could be the edge for all I know. Worse case it's cost me $50 and I'll buy one off you anyway.

not knocking ya dizzl... I see your goin the little pwr cooler also... gunna leave ya fly open like me? lol

but with the pipe. best case scenario is no pipe and no filter. turbo can suck as much unrestricted air as it needs.

I understand your train of thought on it but am not sold on the idea you will get better response with a 3" over the 4".

in theory I think the 4" will flow as much air as the turbo needs and the 3" will flow slightly less. imagine sucking air through two different sized straws.

but imo in reality you wont feel any difference between the two on the road at all.

Yeah it's an interesting debate. But if BA's can make 350 through nearly a meter of bent 3 inch pipe surely I can make 300 through 30cm straight bit?

Over boost is there but you don't reallise cause of tune/actuator etc. Remove them and I think you'll find your sucking in way too much air. Hence unnecessary.

It's not the volume it's the compression where power is made. Ideally you need to flow just enough ambient air to reach your compressed air goal and no more.
