A 0w40 when talking full syn is better that a 10w40. The big thing to remember is that the 0 is still thicker than the 40 as your talking about the cold oil not oil at the operating temp. So in reality a 0w40 is better because at the cold start you are closer to the viscousity that the engine requires to lubricate itself properly.

As for the pressure that of cross drops as the oil is warmed and the the restrictor would be needed so the oil has a chance to actually do some cooling of the bearing and bearing cavity on the turbo, otherwise the oil would just fly through there and do bugger all. I doubt any car in the same class as the ford would have a pressure regulated oil system.

My tuner recommends and uses castrol 0-40 on an unopened turbo engine(especially if tuned), it's as has been said above, flows better when cold.

But he also recommended 10-50 if the engine is built.

With the tolerances these motors have I would worry more about the 5 than the 60.

I like the edge and it comes at a good price.

Some have more detergent beads (nulon) and some have more coolant beads. Oils aint oils

The 5 and the 60 viscosity number are both relative to a monograde oil at the same temperature, the numbers do not indicate absolute viscosity.

In short, the 5 at low temperature has vastly higher viscosity than the 60 at operating temperature.

Notwithstanding, there may be other reasons why you might go with a higher low temp viscosity.

Is either a 0-40 or 10-60 really going to have a great effect in the long run on these taxi motors, with tolerances that probably aren't that flash anyway (assuming a factory engine)

I mean so long as there is good quality fresh oil in there and its warmed up before thrashing etc, both are going to do their job of lubricating the engine.

Some people will swear by one oil, others another. Which you choose comes down to the individual as there is no simple "you must use this its the best" answer.

Same goes for the ZF transmission.

The best oil is whatever the person posting has in their car at the time.. Every argument here is valid.. But as above.

I think everyone needs to go read Lawsy's posts in the other oil thread.. Start to finish. And then again if you don't understand it.

But no matter what oil you put in the car.. Stay stationary until the car has run for about 15-30seconds at least.. Keep the revs down till it's warmed up.. And if you're still worried about what is the absolute best oil to use in the car go buy the stuff the dealers will sell you.. It's probably worse then any of the 10w-40 or 10w-60 or 0w-40 variants found at Autobarn but hey! It's what ford say to use!.
