Wanna have a go at fixing up some imperfections on my car, myself. Its an ex cop car, and is a country car so see's some crap roads.

It's A1 white, a BF2

I'll list the problems, and if possible the best method to attack them

1. Few small patches on the roof, which have been touched up dodgily (colour match not great and with a brush), biggest is 5c coin. its not real flat either.

For this, could I hit it with some 2000/3000 grit to smooth the area, then pressure pack the area with a colour matched can. Maybe 2 or 3 light coats, followed by a light sand with 3000, or some sort of compound polish, then clear coat (how many coats?) and then sand or polish again?

2. Next to the boot on drivers side there's an area that's been repaired before where the guard curves down from the boot. Probably about the size of a large bread plate. The repair looks fine/smooth, but where its been painted is a matte/flat finish as if no clear was applied.

Was thinking of sanding it back, and respraying, similar to above.

With the white, is it going to be difficult to blend/match?

The problems with it now arent huge, don't bother me a whole lot as I drive it daily.

just thought if I could improve it myself, I'd have a shot

A1 paint is pretty easy to match, cant really go wrong.

but I would NOT be spraying a whole roof with a can anyways. will def look sh*t.

save your coin and get it done properly.

have you tried a cut n polish over the areas to see if that works. bring back some gloss.

Wasn't planning on doing the whole roof, the sections are probably only 5c or 10c coin size.

Yeah tried a light cut on the dull area, but didnt do anything as its like it never got clear to start with.

Like I said im not real fussed by it just thought if I could improve things a bit myself I'd give it a go.

Also got a tonne of small chips around the b pillar in the door jam from their gun banging into it.

Um I might be wrong. But the only ones with a dedicated clear coat are the metal flake colours. So yeah probably wrong but have been told that's how it is.

@1600 dave. 2000 3M wet and dry is fine.

If you spray with a can you will have to rub most to all of it back off to get a smooth finish. It will have a huge amount of orange peel. I wouldn't bother. Or go get it professionally done for about $600

I would go over the real sh*tty bits with the 2000 and then hit it with a good compound and then wax. Fareccla is my favorite for redoing bad paint. Bout $120 a liter. Glymm make some great waxes.

And all good paint shops do both car and house. Some also stock the good buffing compounds at a much better price than your auto stores

nah XR09 all cars come with a clear coat over top. it doesnt matter what colour the car is or how fancy the paint/flake is.

spraying small sections the size of a coin can make it look even worse imo.

its up to you, do some research for some more info on how to spray and panel work etc etc.

it wont hurt to get a quote to get it fixed either.

cant give anymore advice wthout seeing the defects.

Yeah, might get a quote, cant hurt. Although full respray would be the go if theyre going to be doing whole panels, front bar is nicely chipped and cracked!!

LP1P? Some kind of painting system??
