Should it wheel spin in second when I dump the throttle at about 3k in the wet? Do the standard xr6t feel much quicker than non turbo's? I have done the solenoid clean and checked the pipework for leaks and fixed a torn rubber going to the throttle body and it's not much better

aiboart Member 665 Member For: 20y 27d Posted 08/10/11 08:57 AM Share Posted 08/10/11 08:57 AM (edited) First check your car. If all is well here is an explanation as to why it may feel slow. The fact is the XR6T Turbo variants in factory tune 'feel' slow. This is a very good thing from a performance, durability and from a comfort perspective. The reasons are: 'Feel' when it comes to acceleration, colloquially the 'shove in the back', is dependant on the first and higher derivatives of acceleration with respect to time. Once on boost the exceptionally smooth power delivery of XR6T Turbo variants results in a derivative of acceleration with respect to time, technically called ' jerk', of zero. The human body is much more sensitive to changes in acceleration than it is to the absolute value of acceleration. Hence, on boost with a value of jerk = 0, the XR6T variants feel exceedingly slow for any given average rate of acceleration. With jerk =0, the tyre contact patch also experiences the same smooth delivery of force. Hence, XR6T Turbo variants can maintain traction exceedingly well, even in the wet. A NA engine, which has no turbo threshold or turbo lag, builds torque in an exceedingly short time. The NA engine therefore has a jerk values far higher than the XR6T variant. This is despite the NA engine's far lower peak and average acceleration. However people, being human tend to interpret the NA engines' high jerk values as high acceleration, but this is not the case.In short, your perceptions are a crap way to judge acceleration over time. They will always put a premium on the value of lumpy, dramatic but useless power delivery. Breaking traction is similarly a poor way to judge acceleration as it places a premium on power delivery that is a dramatic way to go nowhere fast. What is needed is access to a three axis accelerometer coupled to a high speed sampling processor. In the past this was only available in instruments such as the G-Tech. Today every decent mobile phone has such an accelerometer array, in addition to a GPS receiver which can provide similar data.Regards,aa Edited 08/10/11 09:02 AM by aiboart

No wonder it feels so slow! So I will now check the acctuator rod I guess.
