Couple of questions

1. How do I take photos with that effect of the lights of cars streaming across the screen? Have to slow the shutter speed down?

2. Guessing this is a photoshop question but how do you take pictures and make the bonnet fade away to see the engine bay?

1 = long shutter speeds, easiest way is to play with your aperture settings of put a neutral density filter on (get a tripod too)

2 = two pics, bonnet on and bonnet off then mcmerge function

3 = just coz

hey guys,

here is my latest startrails pic, 238 30 second exposures overlaid. it isn't that great except for the ufo at the top/middle! let me know what you think. This has been shrunk a bit too, full size photo is ~167mb!

For me good star trails photos need some other element of interest and need to be shot pretty wide to make full use of the rotation.

It's a good practice shot of the technique though. :thumbsup:

not wrong mate, I thought the silhouette of the trees would be more pronounced, and not having shot here before I wasn't sure how the rotation would go.

I do like this one from earlier in the year better, but will need to go looking for better points of interest over summer!

you take a heap of exposures one after the other using a remote, and then use a program to overlay the images (startrails.exe) and it creates the star trail effect from the images. it usually has to do a bit of blending due to the small gap between the shutter closing and opening again.
